Raymond Gary

Overview

Raymond Gary State Park offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of southeastern Oklahoma. Situated along the shores of its namesake lake, this park is known for its tranquil atmosphere and scenic waterfront views. It provides a classic state park experience where the focus remains on connecting with nature and enjoying the slower pace of life. Travelers will find a well-maintained environment that highlights the natural beauty of the Choctaw County landscape.

Location & Surroundings

The park is located near the small town of Fort Towson, just off Highway 70. Its primary feature is Lake Raymond Gary, a spring-fed body of water characterized by its calm surface and lily pads. The surroundings are lush and green, offering plenty of shade under mature trees. Because the lake is a no-wake zone, the area remains remarkably quiet, free from the roar of high-speed motorboats, making it an ideal spot for birdwatching and photography.

Amenities & Park Features

RVers have several options at this location, including sites with full hookups and others with water and electric only. The park features multiple comfort stations with restrooms and showers, ensuring convenience for those without onboard facilities. Visitors can make use of the fishing pier, boat ramps, and a playground for children. For group gatherings, there are pavilions and picnic tables scattered throughout the park, all designed to maximize the view of the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The most popular activity here is undoubtedly fishing, with the lake being well-stocked with bass, catfish, and sunfish. Just a short drive away, history buffs can explore the Fort Towson Historic Site, which offers a glimpse into 19th-century frontier life. For those willing to venture slightly further, the town of Hugo provides additional dining and supply options, while the nearby Hugo Lake State Park offers different terrains and expanded recreational opportunities for a day trip.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is a perfect match for anglers and kayakers looking for a serene water experience. It caters well to retirees and families seeking a quiet escape rather than a high-energy resort. Because of its relaxed environment, it is also highly recommended for nature photographers and solo travelers who value peace and privacy. If your goal is to unhook and enjoy the sounds of the lake under a canopy of stars, this park will fit your travel style perfectly.

A really pretty area! The designated swim area is on the left crest of where the cabins are in the loop. Exiting the water I had dirt on my skin/hairs (it’s a lake) but there are clean restrooms/a shower to rinse off after, so no worries. I just wouldn’t wear white if you don’t want it getting soiled. It was very calm and secluded when I visited!

The lake is pleasant, the RV sites are nice. But the cabins were NOT clean. We rented 2 and they were covered in cobwebs and dust. Floors were not cleaned, cigarettes all over the floor. We rented a shelter for Saturday but had to go get the ranger because there were people camping there. You might want to check it all out before planning a family event.

This is a hidden gem! Great park rangers, great scenery, even electricity at some of the tent sites! This is comparable to Lake Murray but smaller. Recommended!

This was a great place to relax and enjoy nature. It is well maintained and clean. The park rangers we very friendly and accommodating. The view was so beautiful as the leaves were changing during our stay.

Love how peaceful it is at the lake, not crowded like most lakes. Not a big lake but perfect for kayaking!
