Nice, small state park. Grass walking trail eliminates encounters with bikes and encourages leisurely strolls around the lake. Mature woods with trees sometimes right up to the shoreline. Picnic tables, shelters and a beach make for a pleasant experience.

Whenever we're visiting family in Chariton, IA, I get a nonresident fishing license and spend free time at Red Hawk Lake. Bass, crappie and catfish

My wife and I reserved 006 site at Red Haw for the weekend of fishing on our kayaks. We have two 10 foot kayaks on a small Kayak trailer and a 30 foot class C motorhome. We get to the site , get all set up then we were told by the host we could not park our kayak trailer on our camp site. We were told all trailers had to park it at the entrance or boat ramp were it could be easily stolen, I asked about the trailer with the smoker on it I was told that is camping equipment and it was ok. It was a lot bigger then our 10 foot Kayak trailer.

Red Haw was a destination for us on our State Parks of Iowa tour. I was amazed at the opportunities here. We are earmarking next summers places we want to return to as the weather turned cold. This was definitely a great fall tour if you are looking for fall foliage color. Large bluegill and ice fishing caught my attention as well What a great place to camp and small enough you can walk the entire trail.

Our family recently visited the park for a family hike around the lake. The entire hiking loop is about 4 miles and the paths were well maintained. The terrain is mostly flat and does not make for a difficult hike. The fall colors here would be fantastic, and I think our family is planning to come back during the fall months to experience the fall beauty here. The park has campgrounds, swimming beach, boat ramps, and special kayak launching ramps. I can't not attest to the quality of these facilities, but the campgrounds were full and there were plenty of visitors at the beach. We would like to try kayaking at this park sometime as well. I would certainly recommend a visit to this park either by yourself or with others.

Wonderful state park for fishing. The lake is clean and well groomed, and is very accessible from shore via trails with access to the water. Has modern bathrooms, camping facilities, swimming area, and trails. Keep up the good work.
