Redberry Lake Regional Park

Overview

Redberry Lake Regional Park offers a rare experience as it is situated on one of Canada’s few saline lakes. As a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, this park serves as a sanctuary for both wildlife and travelers seeking a quiet escape into the Saskatchewan prairie. The atmosphere is peaceful and community-focused, providing a serene environment where the sounds of the water and shorebirds take center stage. It is a destination that balances natural preservation with family-friendly recreation, making it much more than just a standard overnight stop.

Location & Surroundings

Located just a short drive from the town of Hafford, SK, the park is nestled within the beautiful aspen parkland biome. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, native shrubs, and the expansive, shimmering waters of Redberry Lake. This unique saline environment makes it a critical habitat for the piping plover and many other migratory birds. RVers will find the drive straightforward, arriving at a location that feels deeply secluded while remaining easily accessible from major provincial highways.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a range of camping options, including serviced sites with electricity suitable for various RV sizes. Guests have access to essential facilities such as modern washrooms, coin-operated showers, and a convenient sani-dump station. For recreation, the park features a well-maintained 9-hole golf course, a beach area for swimming, and several playgrounds for children. The boat launch allows for easy access to the water, though the lake's high salinity provides a unique, buoyant experience for swimmers and paddlers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Nature enthusiasts should visit the Redberry Lake Interpretive Centre to learn about the biosphere’s ecology and local history. The surrounding area is famous for the Crooked Trees of Hafford, a botanical mystery consisting of a grove of strangely twisted aspen trees located just a short drive away. Within the park, the network of hiking trails provides excellent opportunities for photography and wildlife viewing, particularly during peak migration seasons for American White Pelicans and other waterfowl.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and birdwatchers who appreciate a quiet, ecologically significant setting over a high-traffic resort. It is a wonderful fit for families looking for a safe, relaxed environment where children can explore the beach or playground. RVers who enjoy unique natural phenomena will find the saline lake and the nearby crooked trees fascinating. It is best suited for travelers who prefer a self-contained, peaceful camping experience surrounded by the wild beauty of the Canadian prairies.

The campground size is ideal for those who have RV, camper or motorhome etc because most of their electrical socket is intended for rv use. We set up a group tent which was hard ,no regular power outlet, or we found one and but we need to use extension cord and the power was just limited for 2 electric equipment . All the staff there were very friendly and washroom located just across our campground. Washroon was clean and i think just enough for the size of the area but the water pressure in the toilet was so weak, once you flushed it you have to wait for a while so you could flush again. We only able to use one out of two available toilet because the other one is plugged throughout our 3days stay there. You need a loonies for their shower. Generally, the place is still recommendable for a short stay or if you want to visit the lake for a day..

I love this place. First time being here, and I will definitely come back. The lake is surprisingly clear, and the beach area is spacious. The residents are friendly, and the community is generally safe. I hope that they will reno or keep up to date the public washrooms and showers. Over-all it's a lovely place.

Very nice salt water lake, great mini golf course, wonderful food at the concession as well. Water was warm and clean! Pyrogy poutine with actual pyrogies in it too! Would definitely come back.

East facing beach, should be sheltered if there is a west wind. Concession has awesome fries and friendly staff. Small playground on the beach. The gravel road from Borden (685) is not great, a bit too much for a day trip from Saskatoon.

This is a perfect destination from Saskatoon for a half-day hike. It is necessarily an out-and-back hike, as the eastern side of the trail is blocked by a wired fence and the trail doesn't continue. Total roundtrip distance: 12 km. Rating: easy. It's 5 km of hiking to the fence, and then and extra 7 km on the way back with a detour at the lighthouse. From the parking lot, follow the 4X4 posts marked white at their top or take the road. When arriving at the hill, you must head up the hill to continue hiking east. After the short summit, the trail is about 1.5 m wide, not marked, but very easily to follow. There are educational signs here and there. Totally worth the 1.3 h drive each way from Saskatoon for a pleasant fall day. Can't comment on the number of mosquitoes present in summer, which I expect there would be plenty.
