Reelfoot Lake
Overview
Reelfoot Lake State Park in Tiptonville, TN, offers a camping experience unlike any other in the South. Known for its cypress-filled waters and unique geological history, the park was created by the powerful New Madrid earthquakes of the early 19th century. Today, it serves as a massive natural refuge where RVers can immerse themselves in a shallow-water ecosystem. The park provides a tranquil environment for those looking to escape the hustle of city life.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the northwest corner of Tennessee, the park is defined by its stunning cypress knees and majestic bald eagles. The surrounding landscape is a mosaic of marshes, bayous, and flooded forests that create a prehistoric feel. Unlike deep-water reservoirs, the lake is shallow and filled with submerged trees, making it a world-class destination for photography and nature study. Its remote location ensures a quiet stay surrounded by the sounds of the Tennessee wilderness.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features two main camping areas: the Airpark Campground and the South Campground. Most sites offer water and electric hookups with 20, 30, and 50-amp service available for various rig sizes. Visitors have access to modern bathhouses, laundry facilities, and a central dump station. Each site typically includes a picnic table and a grill, perfect for evening cookouts. The park also provides easy access to boat ramps and several interpretive hiking trails that wind through the wetlands.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is the primary draw here, with anglers seeking out the lake’s legendary crappie and bluegill populations. During the winter months, the park becomes a hub for eagle watching tours, as hundreds of bald eagles migrate to the area. Visitors can explore the R.C. Donaldson Memorial Museum to learn about the area's natural history or take a guided pontoon boat tour. For those who enjoy paddling, the sheltered bayous offer incredible opportunities for kayaking through the cypress groves.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for nature photographers and birdwatchers who want a front-row seat to Tennessee’s diverse wildlife. It is particularly well-suited for retirees and families looking for a slower-paced outdoor adventure rather than a high-energy resort experience. While the campgrounds accommodate most RVs, the park’s rustic charm and focus on conservation make it a favorite for those who value scenic solitude and authentic natural beauty.

We came here to stay for an event for our small business. We were pleasantly surprised by the serene views and atmosphere. There is a bait shop which offers every kind of live bait ran by the sweetest lady. This place may not be luxurious, but it’s everything you need to take a break from the world. RV pads were nice and level. They also have the sweetest welcoming committee (dogs pictured). We’re very grateful we found this place and will 100% be back.

North end was friendly, and accommodating. Cabins are well kept albeit a little older. But can't wait to go back again and get me some more crappie!

The pure beauty of the this lake and simplicity of dwellings provided were overshadowed by the kindness of Bill and Candy. I can't wait to return! PS. It took everything I could not to bring Miss Suzie home. She is a not only a wonderful hound, but an impatient dockmate waiting for the boat to return for her snacks.

We just spent 2 days and 2 nights at Sportsmans Lodge North. The owners were awesome, down home people who want you to have a good experience. Even after a tornado placed damage on their resort Candy and Bill ( owners) did all they could to put us on fish. Stormy weather and rain didn't help much, but they put us on fish and fish we caught. Don't expect chandeliers made of antlers and shag carpet. We had a nice clean room with all the anemeties right on the water and excellent hosts. This is a fish camp and at this camp you will catch fish.
