Reid Lake Territorial Park

Overview

Reid Lake Territorial Park offers a true wilderness experience for travelers venturing along the scenic Ingraham Trail. Located deep within the boreal forest, this park serves as a gateway to the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield. It is a peaceful retreat where the sounds of the city are replaced by the call of loons and the rustle of wind through the trees. RVers come here to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature in one of the most northern accessible campgrounds in Canada.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 60 kilometers east of Yellowknife, the park is tucked away along the Ingraham Trail. The landscape is defined by ancient rock outcroppings, pristine freshwater, and dense spruce forests. Because it is far from urban light pollution, the park is an exceptional spot for viewing the Northern Lights during the late summer and fall seasons. The surrounding terrain offers a glimpse into the raw, untouched beauty of the Northwest Territories landscape.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a dry camping destination, meaning there are no power or water hookups at the individual sites. However, the park provides large gravel pads suitable for various RV sizes and well-maintained pit toilets. Visitors have access to a communal kitchen shelter, fresh drinking water, and firewood for the provided fire pits. The boat launch is a central feature, making it easy for travelers to get their canoes or powerboats onto the water for a day of exploration.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water activities are the main draw here, with the lake being famous for trophy fishing opportunities, specifically northern pike and walleye. Multiple hiking trails wind through the forest, offering views of the lake and local wildlife like foxes or black bears. For those willing to drive back toward Yellowknife, the Cameron River Falls trail is a nearby must-see, featuring a spectacular waterfall and scenic boardwalks that showcase the power of the local river systems.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for self-contained RVers who appreciate a rustic atmosphere over resort-style amenities. It appeals most to outdoor enthusiasts, photographers, and those looking to experience the authentic North without the crowds. If you enjoy quiet evenings by a campfire and do not mind trading a sewer hookup for a view of the Aurora Borealis, Reid Lake provides the perfect backcountry-style basecamp for your Northwest Territories adventure.

Awesome spot to view The Aurora's during a clear night sky. It has a washroom at the location as well.

Great little place on the Yellowknife river. Popular boat launch and fishing spot. The local lakes are better fishing IMO. Lovely spot for a picnic.
