Reserve Faunique de Port Daniel/Camping Port-Daniel

Overview

Located in the heart of the Gaspé Peninsula, the Reserve Faunique de Port Daniel offers a serene escape into the rugged wilderness of Quebec. This SEPAQ-managed destination is celebrated for its lush valleys and crystal-clear waterways. Unlike bustling commercial campgrounds, this site prioritizes a peaceful connection with nature, providing a quiet base for travelers exploring the eastern coast of Canada. It is an authentic wilderness experience where the pace of life slows down significantly.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled just inland from the town of Port-Daniel–Gascons, the park is situated within a picturesque valley where the Port-Daniel River meanders through the landscape. The surrounding geography is defined by dense forests and rolling mountains, creating a secluded atmosphere while remaining accessible from the scenic Route 132. It serves as a perfect transition point between the coastal charms of the Baie des Chaleurs and the deep, untouched backcountry of the interior forest.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground offers a well-maintained environment with 45 designated sites that blend into the forest. Facilities are designed to ensure a comfortable stay while maintaining the integrity of the wilderness experience. Notable amenities include:

  • Sites equipped with two-service hookups including water and electricity for RV convenience.
  • A centrally located dumping station accessible for larger rigs.
  • Individual fire pits and picnic tables provided at every location for outdoor dining.

The park also provides clean washroom facilities with showers and firewood available for purchase at the registration center, ensuring guests have the essentials for a comfortable stay after a day of exploration.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Anglers will find paradise here, as the reserve is famous for its brook trout fishing across numerous lakes and rivers. Hikers can explore the Sentier du Petit Lac, a trail that offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and vibrant flora. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the historic Port-Daniel railway tunnel or relax on the sandy beaches along the coast. Wildlife enthusiasts should keep their eyes peeled for moose, black bears, and diverse bird species.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and anglers who prefer a rustic, quiet environment over a high-traffic resort experience. It is a fantastic choice for RVers who want to avoid the crowds of the more touristy Gaspésie stops while still enjoying essential electricity and water comforts. If you value star-filled nights and the sound of a rushing river over organized entertainment, this wildlife reserve will fit your travel style perfectly.

Amazing. Geared to Salmon fishing. Good facilities. Fairly clean.

Great campground and facilities. We have stayed here twice and would return again if convenient. Hunting season limited access to much of the park in mid-September. The one trail we could hike this season was certainly enjoyable with great views of the river. Google seems to think this is a hotel. It is a beautiful campground and nature preserve. Enjoy it as such. No one here to fold down your sheets or feed you breakfast in the morning.

By far the best place to camp around this part of Gaspe. We have rented here, and this time used a Ready-to-Camp hut. Front office very helpful. Place was quiet with laundry, dishwashing and showers available. Good hikes from the campground.

We booked the ready to camp site for a quick couple of nights to visit Percé. Everything was provided and was shocked at the quality of the ready to camp site. It is truly a hidden gem of a place if you are looking for tranquility. It is about an hour from Percé and we truly enjoyed it. The bathrooms were clean and the cooking shelter was large. There is also free wifi at the check-in office, which is a big plus, because cell signal was minimal. There’s not much in terms of hiking trails, but we were not there for that. The fishing is supposed to be good too. Would definitely go back if we plan another trip to Percé. It is a lot cheaper than hotels there at peak season.

The Mother Nature has always 5 stars. However, I am giving just 3 stars to the place based on the property of the showers. The image shows one of the new places created recently.
