Reserve Faunique du Saint-Maurice/Camping Lac Normand

Overview

Nestled within the vast wilderness of the Réserve faunique du Saint-Maurice, Camping Lac Normand offers a serene escape for travelers seeking to reconnect with nature. Managed by Sépaq, this destination is renowned for its spectacular fine sand beach and exceptionally clear waters. Unlike traditional commercial parks, this site prioritizes the preservation of the boreal forest environment, providing a peaceful backdrop for an authentic outdoor adventure in the heart of Quebec’s rugged interior.

Location & Surroundings

Located near Trois-Rives, QC, the park is situated deep within a territory characterized by rolling mountains and hidden lakes. To reach the campground, visitors travel along well-maintained gravel forest roads, offering a true sense of departure from the modern world. The surrounding landscape is a lush tapestry of spruce and birch trees, where the sounds of the Saint-Maurice River and the calls of local loons define the atmosphere of the region.

Amenities & Park Features

The facilities at Lac Normand cater to those who appreciate a rustic experience. While many sites are unserviced, they are thoughtfully integrated into the woods to provide privacy and shade. The supervised swimming area is the park's centerpiece, featuring one of the most beautiful inland beaches in the province. Guests have access to boat rentals for canoeing and kayaking, as well as essential facilities like washblocks and drinking water stations, ensuring comfort without detracting from the wilderness vibe.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The reserve is a playground for active travelers. Anglers frequently visit to test their skills against the native brook trout found in the surrounding lakes. For hikers, the nearby trails offer varying levels of difficulty, leading to impressive viewpoints and hidden waterfalls. Exploring the Chute-aux-Rochers provides a memorable afternoon excursion, while the calm waters of the lake are perfect for a full day of paddling or relaxing on the shore.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for self-sufficient RVers and families who prefer tranquility and natural beauty over luxury amenities. Because the journey involves forest roads, it is best suited for those comfortable with gravel driving and rustic settings. If you enjoy off-the-grid style camping and want access to some of the best freshwater swimming in Quebec, Camping Lac Normand provides an unmatched destination for your next road trip.

Incredible experience in every way. The site is perfect, the people are very nice. We stayed for 4 nights and it was unforgettable. A special thank you to Cédric, the keeper of the Lac Dunbar campsite for his many fishing tips and his kindness throughout our stay. I strongly recommend a stay at SÉPAQ !!!
