Rising Sun Rv Park

RV Park

Overview

Overview

Travelers navigating the eastern plains of Colorado will find Rising Sun RV Park situated in Kit Carson, Colorado, serving as a practical basecamp along the historic Smoky Hill Trail region. This high-plains stop reflects the wide-open skies and quiet pace characteristic of rural Cheyenne County, offering a straightforward resting point for motorists traversing the state's less-traveled agricultural corridors.

Location & Surroundings

Positioned along U.S. Highway 40 and U.S. Highway 287, the park sits amidst vast expanses of wheat fields, shortgrass prairie, and sweeping horizons. The local climate is defined by abundant sunshine, low humidity, and notable wind potential. Visitors arrive through a landscape dominated by agricultural vistas, small-town charm, and the expansive skies that make eastern Colorado sunrises and sunsets particularly striking for road-weary travelers.

Amenities & Park Features

Because specific on-site infrastructure is not universally documented for Rising Sun RV Park, guests should contact management directly to verify utility configurations. Before arrival, it is wise to inquire about hookup types such as 30 or 50-amp electrical service, potable water availability, and on-site waste disposal. Additionally, campers should check on site dimensions, pull-through versus back-in availability, and seasonal operational dates to ensure proper accommodation for specific rig sizes.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The surrounding Cheyenne County area connects visitors to local heritage, including the Kit Carson Museum, which preserves regional pioneer and railroad history. Day trips from town can take motorists west toward the Karval Lake Recreation Area for wildlife viewing and prairie bird watching, or further toward the larger hub of Cheyenne Wells to explore county historical sites, local dining, and regional museums.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination suits long-distance road-trippers needing an overnight stop between Kansas and the Rocky Mountains, as well as travelers seeking a quiet alternative to crowded interstate corridors. Self-contained RVers who appreciate a slower rural pace, unobstructed stargazing, and straightforward highway access will find this high-plains stop well-aligned with practical travel itineraries across eastern Colorado.

Only two sites but very quiet and the wifi is excellent. The host are very accommodating and the price is right. Perfect for an overnight stay.

Small, maybe 1 1/2 sites. We had to figure out where to park. Could be potential for 6 sites but only saw q sewer. On the plus side we were only glampers, didn't like other 'rv parks & didn't want to drive farther.

Good place to spend the night. We called about 10 minutes before we pulled in and were told to pull into site 1. No mention of payment was made. We were underwhelmed. There are only two sites on a corner property with light traffic. You can pull through easily or back into the sites. The hook-ups look relatively new. There is a shed between the two sites with the rates on the door. There is a tool box on the door with envelopes in it and a mail slot for your payment. Two bars of Verizon 4G. It was fairly quiet at night. Nothing special, but a nice place to plug in for the night. We will stay again if we're in the area.

Rodney and Diana are 5 star hosts. Warm, friendly, and welcoming. Felt right at home...added bonus...lightening wifi. Our stay was absolutely enjoyable.
