Roaring River

Overview

Roaring River State Park is a premier destination in the Missouri Ozarks, famous for its daily trout stockings and striking blue spring. The park blends natural beauty with historic architecture, creating a nostalgic atmosphere for families and outdoor enthusiasts. It is centered around the massive Roaring River Spring, which pumps millions of gallons of water into the valley floor every day, creating a unique microclimate and a cold-water haven for fish.

Location & Surroundings

Tucked into a deep, narrow canyon near Cassville, MO, the park is surrounded by the rugged hills of the Ozark Mountains. The scenery is defined by steep limestone bluffs and dense hardwood forests that change color beautifully in the autumn months. Its secluded location provides a perfect escape from city life while remaining accessible via Highway 112, offering a serene valley setting that feels worlds away from the hustle of modern life.

Amenities & Park Features

The park offers three distinct campgrounds with a mix of basic, electric, and sewer-water-electric hookups to accommodate various rig sizes. Campground 1 is particularly popular for its proximity to the river and hatchery, while the other loops offer more wooded seclusion. Guests have access to modern shower houses, a laundry facility, and a seasonal swimming pool. The historic Emory Melton Inn and Lodge provides on-site dining and a gift shop for those looking for a break from camp cooking.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the primary draw, with a dedicated trout hatchery and daily siren signals marking the start and end of fishing hours. Beyond the water, visitors can explore seven hiking trails, including the Fire Tower Trail, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills. The Ozark Chinquapin Nature Center provides educational exhibits for kids, and the nearby Mark Twain National Forest offers additional miles of wilderness and backcountry roads to explore.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for avid anglers and families seeking a traditional, nature-focused outdoor experience. Because of the winding valley roads and narrow park interior, it is best suited for those comfortable navigating moderate grades and curves in their RV. It appeals most to travelers who value scenic beauty, historic charm, and active pursuits like hiking and wildlife viewing over high-speed connectivity or modern resort luxuries.

Such a beautiful campground, especially during autumn foliage changes! Even though there were plenty of campers, everyone was courteous to each other and we had a peaceful stay over our three nights.

Roaring River State Park offers the most beautiful hiking trails, great accommodations and ample fishing. The park store employees are friendly and the campground amenities are lovely. There's a wonderful picnic area, free for day use and a designated fish cleaning area. Highly recommend!

What an amazing surprise. We just booked this as an overnight pit stop. What a beautiful park and exceptionally managed. The facilities are exceptional. We are already planning to go back for a longer visit.

We booked this on a last minute trip not really knowing what was here and man were we pleased! Phenomenal, well maintained state park. Camp site 3 seems to be new. We stayed here on our RV. Full hook ups, concrete pad. Right next to the very beautiful Roaring River where you can catch trout released from the nearby upstream hatchery. 100% would stay again!
