Robbers Cave State Park offers a unique blend of Oklahoma history and rugged natural beauty that captures the imagination of every visitor. Nestled deep within the scenic San Bois Mountains, this park is famous for being a legendary outlaw hideout for notorious figures like Jesse James and Belle Starr. For RVers, it provides a well-maintained and expansive base camp to explore over 8,000 acres of forested hills and sparkling lakes. Whether you are interested in the lore of the Old West or simply want a quiet retreat in the woods, this park delivers a memorable and immersive outdoor experience.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just north of Wilburton, Oklahoma, the park is characterized by its dramatic sandstone cliffs and dense pine forests. The landscape is a stark departure from the typical Oklahoma plains, offering significant elevation changes that provide breathtaking scenic overlooks. RVers will find themselves surrounded by the quiet sounds of nature, with easy access to three distinct bodies of water: Lake Carlton, Lake Wayne Wallace, and Coon Creek Lake. These lakes are tucked neatly within the San Bois Mountains, creating a serene atmosphere for morning coffee or evening stargazing.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features several distinct campgrounds, such as Old Circle and Whispering Pines, specifically designed to accommodate various RV sizes and setups. Many of these sites offer full hookups with 50-amp service, ensuring a comfortable stay for those in larger motorhomes or travel trailers. Travelers have access to multiple comfort stations, modern shower facilities, and a seasonal swimming pool to cool off during summer months. For those traveling with horses, there are dedicated equestrian campsites with specialized facilities. The park also includes a well-stocked camp store and numerous picnic pavilions for family gatherings.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor adventure is the primary draw at Robbers Cave, offering activities for all skill levels. Visitors can take the famous hike to the hidden cave where outlaws once sought refuge or challenge themselves with technical rock climbing on the bluff faces. Fishing and boating are popular pastimes on the calm park lakes, while younger travelers often flock to the miniature golf course and seasonal paddleboat rentals. Beyond the park boundaries, the town of Wilburton offers local heritage and dining, but most guests find that the park’s own hiking and biking trails provide more than enough entertainment.

Stayed at the cabins- newly renovated! So pleased with the cabins overall. Lodge is beautiful as well- amazing view! Staff at front are super helpful- it was raining during our stay but that didn’t stop us from exploring the park and seeing the cave. Can’t wait to be back in the summer!

After stopping by I think I'm going to start stopping at more state parks. I was alone for almost my entire visit (2 hours). It was very peaceful and fun wondering around and climbing to the top. I would definitely recommend that you stop by and make your own memories.

In the mountains of eastern OK, gorgeous state park with lots of hiking and fishing and beautiful panoramic views. The caves themselves were also pretty cool. Loved our campsite! So clean and the pad was flat, no cracks. We used this park as a jumping off point to the Talimena Scenic Byway. Perfect timing.

Beautiful sights, good little museum, and gift shop. The pool area looks nice, I just wish the pool was open on hot days, and not just seasonally. The campsites are very clean, there are regular spots and rv spots available. Some of the fire pits and picnic tables are covered by fallen trees, but other than that it was great. Good hiking trails, but the outdoor sign maps need to be updated, most of them don't match the little hand-held maps. Overall it is a great place to visit, it was very educational and beautiful. I look forward to my next visit.

An amazing park to hike around, with lots of activities for children. There's a gift shop, camp sites, boat rentals, horse stalls, a pool, a lake, a restaurant(the food was tasty) and plenty of restrooms for park visitors. Really an all in one adventure for locals. You pay by phone or upon entering with cash, $7 or 8 dollars. The Robbers Cave lookout had a stunning view, and worth seeing during each season. A little gem in Wilburton! ✨️ 💖
