Rock Point Provincial Park offers a unique coastal experience on the northern shores of Lake Erie. This park is highly renowned for its 350-million-year-old fossilized coral reef, which is visible along the limestone shelf at the water's edge. It provides a peaceful retreat where the natural beauty of the Great Lakes meets rich geological history, making it a standout destination for RVers exploring the Haldimand County region.

Location & Surroundings

Located just south of the town of Dunnville, ON, the park sits atop a scenic point overlooking the vast expanse of Lake Erie. The surrounding landscape features a diverse mix of sand dunes, deciduous forests, and wetlands. Its proximity to the mouth of the Grand River adds to the area's ecological significance, providing a tranquil and scenic backdrop for those looking to escape the bustle of more urbanized beach communities.

Amenities & Park Features

The park accommodates RV travelers with several distinct campgrounds, offering a total of four main areas with many spacious electrical sites suitable for various rig sizes. Visitors have access to modern facilities, including comfort stations with flush toilets and hot showers, as well as helpful laundry services. The park also features a well-maintained boat launch, a playground, and multiple picnic shelters, ensuring a comfortable and well-equipped stay for long-term visitors.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Guests can spend their days lounging on the sandy beach or exploring the fascinating exposed fossils embedded in the ancient rock shelf. Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy the Woodlot Trail, which winds through the forest and offers excellent bird-watching opportunities, particularly during the autumn monarch butterfly migration. Nearby Dunnville provides a charming local atmosphere with small shops, local diners, and the famous Muddy the Mudcat statue for a quick photo opportunity.

A lovely provincial park with a beautiful beach on Lake Erie. There is a dog beach at the north end and fossil grounds on the south end. Lots of picnic tables and a small store. If you walk the path to the south there is access to the fossil area and a lookout tower.

What a view of Lake Erie! The water: clear, calm, and vast. Fossil beach is amazing, you can easily locate a fossil on this rocky beach, a great place for children. The lookout is well maintained and has beautiful views. A good place for families to spend a day on the beach which is covered by pebbles, clean and smooth.

I planned on visiting this park to hike and explore. I knew there wasn't much hiking here but the beach is stunning. I brought my bike and was about to ride around the camp ground paths as others were doing so. To bike the entire park too me around half an houe. There are few fossils located on the beach. They are not hard to locate either. Seems like a hot spot for trailers. Dunville is close by if you need amenities and there is a very large ontario parks store within the park.

This place is so serene and quiet, even on busy days. Lots of sun and lots of shade. Photos are just of interesting parts that I saw including the rock formations where you can find fossils. Beach is lovely.

Camping here was just like camping at most Provincial parks. The sites are clean, average sized and well spaced out for privacy. The beach was gorgeous though. We loved exploring on the 'rock point' and finding fossils on it. The water was warm for swimming and plenty of space on the beach to set up for the day and play. The day use beach was the better swimming area. The staff was super helpful when I made a booking boo boo and accommodated us no problem! Will return soon.
