Rocky Hock Campground

Overview

Rocky Hock Campground offers a quiet, rural retreat in the Inner Banks region of North Carolina. This family-operated park provides a peaceful alternative to busier coastal resorts, focusing on a relaxed atmosphere and simple comforts. Visitors often appreciate the slower pace of life found here among the tall trees and open spaces, making it a reliable choice for a restful stopover or a multi-day stay during a long coastal journey.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside of historic Edenton, the park is tucked away in a scenic countryside setting. It sits near the Chowan River and the Albemarle Sound, making it a prime spot for those who enjoy water access without the heavy crowds. The surrounding area is characterized by lush farmland and quiet country roads, offering a landscape that feels authentically North Carolinian and far removed from the hustle of major interstate traffic.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features spacious sites designed to accommodate various rig sizes, including large motorhomes and smaller travel trailers. Essential features at the park include:

  • Full hookups with 30 and 50-amp electrical service.
  • On-site laundry facilities for long-term travelers.
  • Clean bathhouses and restroom facilities.
  • Individual picnic tables and fire rings at most sites.

These amenities ensure that while the park remains rustic and quiet, travelers have everything they need for a comfortable and functional stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A short drive brings guests into Historic Downtown Edenton, often cited as one of the prettiest small towns in the South. Visitors can tour the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse, visit the Barker House, or walk along the waterfront. For outdoor enthusiasts, the nearby river access is excellent for kayaking, fishing, or simply watching the sunset. The Chowan River Bridge offers beautiful views for those driving through the region to explore the surrounding coastal plain.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and retirees looking for a quiet home base while exploring the colonial history and natural beauty of North Carolina. It is well-suited for budget-conscious travelers who prefer a rustic, no-frills experience over a high-activity commercial resort. Good location, out of the way and pretty. Small annoyance with the local dog breeder and their dogs barking during the middle of the night. Love the ducks, though.

NO WIFI regardless of what they say, Horrible Knats!!! locally we learned people laugh about the knats there! They SWARM your rv every time you open the RV. #2, the ground is COVERED in red ant hills like EVERYWHERE. Add to this the hard sharp pricklies everywhere that your pet steps on. This is the worst experience that we have had camping to date.

Quiet, clean, friendly. Geese and ducks wandering. Deer at dusk in an adjacent field. The local town of Edenton very picturesque.

Just off the beaten path, Family oriented with all sorts of stuff to keep you occupied and outdoors having fun...Golf 3 par is too cool, paddle boats, Frisbee golf ⛳️ too... spots are spacious clean and well kept... full hookups , fishing galore... weekend jam sessions the list goes on... with in a couple minutes to the inner coastal water way...with boat lauch access.... let me just say, the family that owns this take pride in it... I'd say with the distance from so many historical spots within minutes just about any direction from the campground... its a hidden , low key but has abundant opportunities for those who really enjoy the outdoors... our fur babies really like it too ... winner winner chicken 🐔 dinner.... 👍🏼 up!!!
