Very nice campground on west side of RMNP. Many sites have good views and privacy. We were happy with site C63. As with most national park campgrounds, the bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. Great location near some nice hikes and Grand Lake, which is a very nice town.

We stayed the first week of October 2025 at campsite 86 and location wise, we loved it. A few things worth noting. The bathrooms here could use an update. The cleanliness was a bit subpar when comparing to other campgrounds in National Parks and you should know there’s no hot water or heat in their restrooms. It may have been the time of year, but when the sun hits your site in the morning we attracted a ton of huge flies when we cooked, while when we returned before sunset we were met with a ton of little flies swarming our campsite until the sun went down. It could’ve been our site (86), but we both mentioned how that would impact the enjoyment level if you planned to spend more time at your campsite. If you’re like us and you’re mainly using it for a place to crash and are exploring the park from sunrise to sunset, this place is great. Firewood was $11 a bundle here and burned much better than the bundle we had purchased the first night in nearby Grand Lake. The elk rut was ongoing, so it was cool to hear them throughout the night and the nearby meadows to this campground will give you plenty of close encounters with them in the early morning hours and hours around sunset. It was about a 1.5 hour drive to Glacier Gorge on the eastern side of the park.

Timber Creek is a hidden gem on the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. It has easy access to the Colorado River headwaters, to wildlife -- including the elk rut in the fall -- as well as beautiful hiking trails. Campsites are in good shape, although restroom facilities are a little dated. Timber Creek is a great way to avoid the congestion of the eastern side of the park.

We absolutely loved our stay at Timber Creek Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park! It was on the western side but still gave us access to drive to the eastern side at Estes Park. Although we had a camping reservation and could come and go as we wished at RMNP, we still had to get a Timed Reservation entry pass (only $2) online the day before we wanted to visit Bear Lake on the eastern side, which we are so thankful we did! We loved our special camping site in the B loop with our small teardrop camper because it was private and close to the bathrooms. We could hear the Elk making their mating calls during the twilight hours and it was so amazing to hear over and over! We did see some Elk near our campsite too! There are several hiking trails nearby that are worth visiting, like Coyote Trail and Holzwarth Historic Site. There are plenty of Elk and Moose grazing nearby, too! We loved our time here and had a great camp host, Hunter! They also have firewood you can buy for $11 a bundle from 5-7 PM nightly, so you can always have a campfire in the evenings. It was only 9 miles from Grand Lake, so we could make trips there for lunch or to spend the day walking in their historic downtown, which was great. Highly recommend Timber Creek Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park!

The one bathroom in the middle is newer and cleaner compared to the two on either side of it. The campsites around the middle seemed to garner more privacy with trees versus the more southern spots with only a few trees. It’s a good spot for a quick nights set up and sleep. It’s a long drive into the depths of the park.

Great campground and tent site! We were kinda near a lot of people but that made me feel safer cause I’m a wuss. Visiting in late September and had never heard an elk before. But that first night camping here we heard them bugle all night. Was very cool! Great location and beautiful views, especially of the night sky!

Great campground! Was worried we would have too much sound from the cars on the road but it wasn’t a problem at all. Spots have fire pits and a picnic table. Bathrooms have a dishwashing sink outside and toilet paper was provided. Had the option to buy firewood but they made it seem like that wasn’t always guaranteed. Beautiful scenery and trees surrounding each campsite. Great experience!

2024-Aug. We camped for 2 nights and 2 days with some families from church. The site was easy to find. Download your maps because the cell phone signal was on and off. Check-in was quick. The staff was nice and friendly. Rangers drive around often. They allowed 2 families per site but the tent pad that we were assigned to, #6 in loop A, was not big enough for two tents or two vehicles. There were restrooms. The women's restroom closest to us has 3 stalls with 1 sink with running water. One wall socket, Bear boxes are shared. There are few water faucets around the area. There is also an amphitheater with a nice view. It was a short walk to a little stream of the Colorado River. There was a fire ban when we went up, so no fire was allowed. Except for electric or propane stoves. There were lots of ant hills 🐜 everywhere. There were also lots of bugs. Lots of stars at night. We had a great time with friends despite all that. God created a magnificent view! Enjoy ⛺️ camping!

We were able to snag this camping spot last minute, as a site freed up while looking for places to camp around 3pm that day. It does not disappoint at all. We were able to see Moose, who also frequent throughout the campground and even though we didn't witness it, the park rangers informed us that there had been recent bear sighting within the campgrounds. It has a beautiful view and many hiking trails within the vicinity.

When we entered Rocky Mountain National Park we noticed lots of other cars driving around, which is normal for our more popular national parks, but a Ranger told us that park attendance was now low because the peak season was over with. That may be generally true, but some of the campgrounds were completely full, while another was half-full, so we felt lucky to get a spot in Timber Creek Campground, which two other groups of campers then tried to steal, but we had excellent camp hosts who knew that our spot was the best and that others try to take it, so they watched out for us while we went sight-seeing. They even had to put a chair in our parking spot to prevent others from just pulling into our space and trying to take it over, even though we had our reservation slip posted on the space properly. We've never been the victim of camping spot theft before, but somehow we knew to take a photo of our posted reservation slip, just in case we'd need to prove that the spot was ours. The camp hosts were super knowledgeable and gave us very good advice and answered all of our questions. The creek near the campgrounds is beautiful, and the hill next to the road had a beautiful male elk browsing early one morning, posing nicely for my photos. The stars at night were gorgeous, our neighbors were friendly, and it's a great place to camp. I'd give it a 5 star rating, but I read some other reviews that said in the old days before the Pine Beetle infestation this campground used to have many trees and now it's bare. That is true, it is pretty bare, but still pleasant. It's nice to see the stars at night. Reviewed on 10/5/2019

Now this is how every campground should be! The park rangers were extremely polite and did rounds every couple of hours to check on everyone which was great! Tons of open space and seclusion here. Will be back again soon!
