Rogue River-Siskiyou/Whiskey Springs Campground
Overview
Whiskey Springs Campground offers a classic forest experience within the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Situated at a refreshing elevation of 3,200 feet, this rustic destination provides a deeply shaded retreat under a dense canopy of Douglas fir and Ponderosa pine. It serves as a quiet, serene alternative to more developed RV resorts, focusing on the simplicity of the Pacific Northwest and the natural beauty of the Cascade Range. The atmosphere is tranquil, making it an excellent spot for recharging away from modern distractions.
Location & Surroundings
Located just a short distance from the charming town of Butte Falls, Oregon, the campground is deeply immersed in the High Cascades. The surrounding terrain is characterized by rolling hills, volcanic soil, and lush woodlands, providing a genuine sense of isolation while remaining accessible via paved forest roads. Travelers coming from the Medford area will appreciate the scenic drive that transitions from urban landscapes into the pristine wilderness of the national forest, where the air is noticeably cooler and crisper.
Amenities & Park Features
As a Forest Service managed site, amenities at Whiskey Springs are focused on providing high-quality essentials for the self-contained traveler. The park offers several key features including:
- Paved parking pads that help with leveling smaller and mid-sized rigs.
- Access to potable water via community hand pumps located throughout the loops.
- Standard forest amenities like vault toilets and seasonal trash collection.
Each individual campsite is thoughtfully arranged with a heavy-duty picnic table and a fire ring for cooking or evening campfires. While there are no electricity or sewer hookups, the spacious layouts provide more privacy than typical commercial parks.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to Willow Lake, a popular spot for trout fishing, kayaking, and swimming during the summer months. The campground also provides easy access to the Fourbit Ford National Recreation Trail, which offers miles of scenic routes for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. For those interested in regional history, the nearby Butte Falls provides a glimpse into the logging heritage of Southern Oregon, while the surrounding woods are perfect for birdwatching and wildlife photography.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for dry campers and boondockers who prioritize a direct connection to nature over resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a traditional camping experience and couples seeking a quiet, wooded getaway. If you enjoy off-grid living and want a peaceful basecamp for exploring the Rogue River-Siskiyou region without the noise of a commercial park, Whiskey Springs is a perfect fit for your next RV adventure.

As per usual, someone got stuck in the snow. Great area for playing in the snow. Would love to come back in the summer for camping.
