Overview

Roland Cooper State Park serves as a premier destination within Alabama’s Black Belt region, offering a serene environment for outdoor enthusiasts and RV travelers. Located on the vast Dannelly Reservoir, this 236-acre park provides a perfect balance of recreational activity and natural preservation. Travelers frequently visit to enjoy the scenic waterfront vistas and the relaxed pace of life that defines this beautiful portion of the Alabama River system.

Location & Surroundings

Found just outside Camden, AL, the park is positioned along the winding banks of the Alabama River. The geography here is defined by the Millers Ferry Lake area, which is known for its deep waters and diverse wildlife habitats. Because it is located in a more rural part of the state, visitors are surrounded by towering pines and hardwoods, creating a peaceful sanctuary that feels worlds away from the noise of major urban centers.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers will find well-maintained campsites that offer full hookups, including 30 and 50-amp electricity, water, and sewer connections. The park infrastructure includes modern bathhouses, laundry facilities, and a park office for guest assistance. For those bringing watercraft, the multiple boat ramps and a well-equipped fish cleaning station make a day on the water seamless. Land-based recreation is also available via the on-site 9-hole golf course and several shaded picnic areas.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The reservoir is a nationally recognized destination for crappie and bass fishing, attracting tournaments and hobbyists alike throughout the year. Beyond the water, the park is a featured stop on the Alabama Birding Trail, where guests can observe diverse species in their natural habitat. A short trip into historic Camden allows visitors to explore well-preserved antebellum homes and local museums. Additionally, the cultural heritage of the nearby Gees Bend community offers a unique opportunity to learn about world-renowned quilting traditions.

Who This Park Is Best For

Roland Cooper is a top choice for dedicated anglers who want to be steps away from some of the best fishing in the Southeast. It also appeals to "snowbirds" and long-term travelers who appreciate quiet, spacious campsites and a community-oriented atmosphere. If your travel style favors natural beauty, birdwatching, and river access over the flashy amenities of a commercial RV resort, this state park provides a high-quality, authentic Alabama experience.

This was a beautiful campground. The lady, Leslie, in the office was amazing and kind. I enjoyed my conversations with her. The facilities were clean and in excellent condition. The wildlife was abundant.

This place is a hidden gem. We stayed in one of the cabins. They have very nice piers to fish off of. Small hiking trails and friendly staff! Everything was very clean a tidy. We will be back. Only thing I would recommend they need is a small kids playground

We have stayed here multiple times over the years. Love it everytime. My husband does a lot of fishing. This trip was extra amazing because the a/c and bedding seems to be new and we have never had such good sleep! So comfy in the little cabins! Always love a getaway here!

Great Campground. Campsites Are Nice And Well Kept. Shower House Was Always Clean. Staff Super Friendly. Nice Boat Ramp. Massive Fishing Pier. We Were There For Hunting And The Dual Skinning Racks Came In Very Handy. Two Winches For Hanging And Skinning Game. Hose With Counter Tops For Cleaning Fish. The Cabins Are Nice! We Stayed In Our Travel Trailer. If We Draw Another Hunt In The Area We'll Definitely Stay At The Campground Again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We recently stayed at this beautiful campsite while escaping Hurricane Milton from Florida, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and immediately felt safe and at home. Jennifer in the front office, along with the entire staff, were incredibly helpful and made sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. The park itself is stunning, with well-maintained facilities, beautiful scenery, and a peaceful atmosphere. We truly enjoyed every moment—whether it was relaxing by the campfire, exploring the park, or just taking in the natural beauty. Our time here gave us the perfect escape we needed. Thank you to everyone at the campsite for making our stay so wonderful! We can’t wait to come back and highly recommend this park to anyone looking for a five-star camping experience. We’ve got so many great photos and videos to remember our time here!
