The 2 stars are for the Lodge Restaurant buffet 9-19-25 at 6pm. I have eaten the buffet 5 times and it was wonderful. We bragged about the food. This visit we brought friends the chicken was so dry you couldn't get it off the bone and couldn't chew it enough to get it moist. The catfish was like rubber everything was way over salted. The loved our deluxe 2 bedroom cottage it was super clean. The service was great. Really disappointed in the buffet. Julie Walker

Fantastic time. The cabins are very clean and exceptionally functional. The staff keep both inside and outside looking great. We will return and plan to do so each year.

Staff was fantastic. So friendly. Gift shoppe was expensive. Buffet was good. Very quiet setting. Room was clean but our electric kept shutting off. No fridge or microwave in lodge room. Could not see the lake from the lodge room because it's so over grown. There wasn't much to do. We chose this place because it had miniature golf, pontoon boat rental, and a beach...... Due to so much rain the lake was super high so beach was gone. The ramp to walk to the boat dock for rentals was under water. They told us we'd have to swim to it. BIG signs saying no swimming due to possible electrical shock 😲 And the miniature golf was closed. They do have a nice pool which we were able to use. All in all if everything was available I would say it's a great place but there's nothing out there but farm land so no shopping or entertainment near by. They do have things scheduled for the summer like music and karaoke at the lodge. Sadly we spent most of our time in our room because there wasn't anything to do. I'd call ahead and ask what's available before booking if you're looking to take advantage of what they have.

I've been a repeat visitor for about 55 years. This place has everything a person needs to have a great get away. I like the fact there are no McDonald's, Burger King, or anything like this here. It has great country food. Lil Dave's has the best pizza you will find anywhere. The people in this area have always been friendly and caring. If you need your boat worked on, see Dave Mercer at the top of the hill from the park launch. He knows his stuff and will not take advantage of you. They have a wonderful Fourth of July fireworks that I strongly recommend you watch from a boat. Listening to the echos run down over the lake is something else to experience. The only "bad" I can say is this: put your boat on the water early. If you wait till later in the morning, the main channel will explain why it's called Rough River. Especially on a busy weekend like the Fourth. But even then, once you get of the main channel the water will smooth out.

Our family group of 9 met at the resort for a reunion. (We came from Virginia, Illinois and Indiana.) This Rough River Dam State Park Resort is our new favorite spot. The rooms are modern and very comfy. Super clean! Food at the lodge is excellent. Served buffet style, it works well for a variety of tastes and appetites. The servers, and staff as a whole, are so friendly and helpful. The lodge is a great place to meet and visit. Indoor and outdoor seating areas are spacious. Cute gift shop. On Friday evening there was live music on the patio with outdoor bar service. Really great music and atmosphere. We all highly recommend!
