Rushing River

Overview

Rushing River Provincial Park is one of the most beloved destinations in Northwestern Ontario, known for its unique geological features and family-friendly atmosphere. Located just a short drive from Kenora, this park serves as a gateway to the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield. The park is centered around the iconic cascading waterfalls, which flow from Dogtooth Lake into Rushing River, creating a natural playground that has drawn visitors for generations who seek a blend of relaxation and outdoor adventure.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Kenora along the Trans-Canada Highway, the park is nestled within the expansive Boreal forest. The landscape is dominated by ancient rock outcrops and towering pine trees, characteristic of the Lake of the Woods region. RVers will find the location convenient for a multi-day stay or as a scenic stopover while traveling across Ontario. The surrounding area offers a serene escape from urban life while remaining accessible to local supplies and the stunning vistas of Dogtooth Lake.

Amenities & Park Features

While the park offers a rustic experience, it provides several essential services for a comfortable RV stay. There are over 200 campsites, many of which feature electrical hookups suitable for various rig sizes, though it is primarily geared toward mid-sized trailers. Visitors have access to clean comfort stations with flush toilets and showers, as well as a convenient dump station and water filling area. A well-stocked park store provides firewood, ice, and basic supplies, ensuring that travelers have everything they need for a successful trip into the wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for most visitors is the series of waterfalls, but the park also boasts four sandy beaches perfect for swimming and sunbathing. For those who enjoy exploring on foot, the Beaver Pond Trail and the Pine Ridge Trail offer scenic views of the local flora and fauna. Anglers and paddlers will appreciate easy access to Dogtooth Lake for pike and walleye fishing, while the nearby city of Kenora offers additional attractions like the Lake of the Woods Museum and local breweries for a taste of regional culture.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for family-oriented travelers who want their children to experience the outdoors in a safe and engaging environment. Because of its natural terrain and emphasis on preservation, it is best suited for those who appreciate a quiet, forest-focused vibe rather than a high-end luxury resort. It is a fantastic destination for nature photographers and hikers looking to capture the raw beauty of Ontario’s landscape while enjoying the convenience of well-maintained provincial facilities.

Really nice Provincial Park. Many of the sites share the power outlet so be sure you check how far the power plug is on the site you pick. Most likely you will need an extension for hydro. Its a toss up for a level site bring your levelling blocks. Washrooms are clean and there is a laundry facility. Bring your loonies if you want to do any washing. $4 to wash and $3 to dry. Lots of trails if you are into hiking. Geese, well there are plenty, that means lots of goose poop, right where the playground is. There is a picnic area too. Keep your dog on a leash.

Absolutely beautiful provincial park and great campsites! Tons of amazing places to dip into the water or jump on a SUP board/canoe/etc. The beaches are great, the hikes in the area vary from easy to difficult! There’s something for everyone to do. Modern showers with warm water are very nice and big! Tons of wildlife and nature to be seen and explored! My only complaint is that the park is frequently used by single day pass users who don’t appreciate having modern bathrooms like the campers do. Therefore, the main bathrooms are often very dirty, toilet paper everywhere, and quite gross. Parks doesn’t maintain/clean the bathrooms nearly as often as they require.

What an awesome campground. The sites were private. The restrooms were clean. The playground was large and well maintained. It was fantastic being able to swim in the water on the hot days. The beach volleyball court was great. Beautiful place to kayak / paddle board. Highly recommend this campground to families and individual’s.

Rushing River was what we expected. Beautiful, big, and a lot of fun for everybody. Trails, lots of nature, waterfalls, playgrounds, bathrooms with showers, big lake... we had a lot of fun for Canada Day Long Weekend 2024. Moskitos are really bad, but so they are everywhere else at the moment.
