Great park with lots of recreational options. Trails for walking, running, biking, birding.. Full disc golf course. Ponds, lagoons, river (including nice boardwalk) for fishing. New cabins. RV camping area. Beautiful park making a great comeback after devastating storms a few years ago.

Nice place with lots of wildlife. The trails around the camp are really nice, and the park is well-kept overall. We camped in an RV spot. The spots themselves are just concrete pads with no shade but they’re plenty level. The bathhouse was clean and reasonably well kept up. Do watch out for the swarm of mosquitos that comes out at dusk. We had to retreat into our van and spent the next 20 minutes swatting them away. My only negative with this place came when we packed up and left. A lady in a golf cart who’d clearly let her minuscule amount of power go to her head blocked our lane as we were about to exit to inform us the speed limit was 5 (FIVE) miles per hour. My speedometer doesn’t even go that low, but we were probably going 10mph. Nice place other than that. Be sure to walk the orange trail and see lots of wildlife.

I had not visited this park since the hurricane in 2020. This park has always been so beautiful! Even though it lost alot of its trees it is still such a peaceful and lovely retreat. Very friendly staff. Clean restrooms. Great trails for all ages. Boardwalks, walking paths, bike paths, kids trail, playgrounds, disk golf, boating, kayaking, picnic areas...something for everyone! 💚💚💚

A very nice and well maintained park. RV sites are well equipped but no trees or privacy whatsoever in this area. A beautiful little lake with cypress trees and access to the Houston River. A boat launch and kayak rentals are available at the river. Nice cabin rentals. There are a couple nice hiking trails here.

If you are looking at our price of $66 a night, we booked a premium pull through site. We've been RVing for 25 years and sites like this easily go for double this price. Thanks for state parks. Our site had lots of Space, maintained Grass, Grill, Table, Patio, Views... Awesome park. Lots of hiking trails and lots of great shops and restaurants in Lake Charles. We brought our bikes, their are plenty of paved paths and off road trails. We did not go fishing however there were a plenty of people fishing. The park is large enough people fishing were spread out across the park. Park is easy to maneuver, our motorhome is 38' and towing a Jeep Wrangler with two ebikes. Very peaceful wonderful stay. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Motorhome at site CT007

Hurricane Laura took a toll on the state park in 2020, but with the help of the community, so much of the park has been restored to its former beauty! They renovated the bathrooms and facilities. A great place for outdoor activities with family!

We stayed 3 nights in our 5th wheel in site 24. Nice site, but hookups are way in the back of the site & there was a drop off on the living side. Whole campground looked nice, but seemed to be designed by someone who does not own a RV (as indicated by hookup placement & road curves inside the campground). Appreciated having laundry facilities on site & the gates were locked at night. Lots of trails to walk & close to things to do in the Lake Charles area.

We stayed in the camp ground. The sites were all full hook up. Bathrooms were clean and the showers hot. E stopped twice once on our way to Texas and another on our return trip.

We had wanted to stay here longer but we decided to cut our visit short and head to our next destination so we could hunker down and let the winter snow storm pass. Yes, SNOW in Louisiana. First snow in Lake Charles since 2009 from what I can find. This park was hit with a hurricane a few years back which decimated the park. Most everything is newly built. CG is all concrete roads and pads with new hook ups. Sites and roads are wide and easy to get into. Park apparently lost 80% of their trees and there are none in the CG. It was about 75% full. There is a laundry room, cold water wash only. One of the machines recently burst and they had heaters and fans drying it out. Bathroom is out of date but serviceable. There is just one dumpster and it is up beyond the bathroom. There were only 2 signs in the whole park warning of alligators. And 1 that said don't feed them. Of course you would not need to remind intelligent people not to feed alligators. Large day use and nice boardwalks, picnic shelters, even some EV charging stations. Their 'cabins' are new and don't look like cabins, they look like a small housing development. There was one trail open, the Riverwalk Trail. It is a 1.5 mile walk which loops around the CG. Park is surrounded on all sides by housing developments. I'm sure that will be less noticeable once the trees grow back. Was very glad to see armed state park police on patrol, especially given the surrounding area. There is a town outside where we found a Walmart. But the town has more gun stores and churches than they have medical offices and grocery stores if that tells you anything. We camped at Sam Houston Jones State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We did @A Year to Volunteer at this park. There was a lot to do for cleanup. The staff was great. There were 49 people working on the park for 2 weeks. We got the materials for the boardwalk 3 days before we were to leave. We got a lot done. I encourage everyone to check it out. They hope to open for day use in May.
