The park sits at a comfortable elevation of approximately 6,900 feet, offering refreshing air and manageable summer temperatures. It is situated roughly 15 miles northeast of Dolores, Colorado, keeping you close to local supplies while maintaining a secluded forest feel. The landscape is dominated by the McPhee Reservoir, which is the second-largest body of water in the state, offering deep blue vistas against the rugged Colorado terrain.

Amenities & Park Features

This facility stands out among forest service sites because it offers a blend of primitive charm and modern convenience. While the park provides vault toilets and communal drinking water, campers benefit from several functional features:

  • Multiple loops offering electric hookups for RVs.
  • Large four-lane boat ramp for easy reservoir access.
  • Spacious sites designed to accommodate large trailers and slide-outs.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Boating and fishing for smallmouth bass, walleye, and trout are the most popular activities on the reservoir. For land-based adventures, the Boggy Draw Trail System is located nearby, providing world-class mountain biking and hiking loops through the forest. History buffs will appreciate the park's proximity to Mesa Verde National Park and the Canyons of the Ancients, allowing for easy day trips to explore ancient cliff dwellings and archaeological sites.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is a perfect match for boaters and anglers who want direct water access without sacrificing the convenience of electricity. It also appeals to active families and mountain bikers who enjoy a rustic, quiet home base close to diverse trail networks. Sites are cleaned between each camper, and our sites 7 and 9 had great views of McPhee Reservoir and the sunset.

It was a great weekend with a great set of camp hosts! The fishing was pretty good from the shore and the lake felt great! There is a great kayaking spot also!

Bit of a drive but a hidden gem of a spot. Lovely, has a generous "no wake zone" for kayaking and paddle boarding. Good fishing, nice trout!
