Several areas to camp. The lake is very large. My favorite was learning there are white pelicans and watching them in the lake. I grew up by thr Beach and never knew pelicans lived inland. Silly I know but watching so many together blew my mind.

They have been expanding the areas where you can shore fish. The trails are kind of maintained. Mostly when it gets close to hunting season. The Rangers are always friendly and helpful.

Nice, not too crowded mostly fishing boats on the lake We caught a fair amount of fish. We had some severe weather moving in on us, lol but tough it out and rewarded for it can’t wait for my next trip back

Signal is hard to get here, but other than that, this is a gem of a campground. We stayed in the Hickory Point campground, which is the one with the shower house. The camp was very helpful, and ice and firewood are available near check-in. Seems as if every site has a view of the water, so bring your poles if you're an angler. It's only a 30-minute drive to Springfield if you want a great variety of restaurants and a trove of Lincoln sites and activities to explore.

Spent Labor Day weekend at Sangchris State Park Deer Run. Nice size lot. Backup site pretty level. Nice fire pit. Electrical 30 amps. Privy pits near our site. Get water at dump station on the way in. I was impressed with how quiet it was. Pretty full this weekend but no loud music, kids, or dogs. Well with the exception of my 1 year old Zeus. He likes to bark at anything that moves. Nice open space for games. Trees for shade. Close to lake for fishing. My husband thought he heard Bigfoot Friday night and took the dogs to search for him. No luck. So if you camp here .....be on the lookout. Friendly camphosts.

Excellent State Park! We arrived without a reservation and scored a great campsite! We camped 2 nights at Deer Run. The camphost were pleasant and got us checked in right away. The vault toilets were clean and well stocked. We drove over to the Hickory campground (3 min) to take showers. Campsites had electric hook ups. Potable water and a dump station are available.

We enjoyed a quick 2-mile pre-fathers day Hike and Picnic. Had the dogs with us and enjoyed the scenery. Someone said the trails are not well maintained but we only saw a couple of large branches across the trail. Personally, we like jumping over the logs and large branches. The dogs get a kick out of it as well. The trail is open to horses so watch where your step or where your dogs roll around. We learned that the hard way. Fortunately, there is a water pump at the beginning of the trail and rinsed her off. We also agreed with another reviewer about the bathroom being well-maintained. Other than a small field mouse that made its way into the woman's washroom which added to our entertainment as I heard a squeal from my daughter and saw her run out. Not much of a camper but as soon as I gear up we'll try an overnight. We got there before 8 am on a Saturday and there was no one to be seen. Be safe and enjoy your visit.
