Scenic Park Campground

Overview

Scenic Park Campground offers a tranquil yet accessible retreat on the banks of the Missouri River. Managed by the city, this park is known for its spacious layout and modern facilities. Travelers often find it a refreshing stopover due to the clean, paved sites and the lush, green surroundings of the larger municipal park complex. It combines the quiet of a riverside park with the convenience of nearby urban amenities.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in South Sioux City, Nebraska, the park provides a unique vantage point overlooking the river toward the Sioux City, Iowa skyline. Its position near Interstate 29 and Highway 77 makes it highly convenient for road trippers crossing the region. The immediate area is dominated by the Missouri River, offering a serene atmosphere with plenty of mature shade trees and open grassy spaces for walking.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground is well-equipped for various RV sizes, featuring full hookup sites with both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. Guests have access to a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, modern shower facilities, and a reliable laundry room. The park also includes concrete pads and pull-through sites, which simplify the leveling process and setup for larger motorhomes and fifth wheels, ensuring a comfortable stay for any duration.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the paved walking and biking trails that wind through the park and along the river. Just a short drive across the river, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center provides historical context for the region. Families can explore the nearby Sergeant Floyd Monument or enjoy the entertainment options at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, located just minutes away in downtown Sioux City.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for families and mid-trip travelers seeking a balance between nature and city convenience. Because of the wide paved roads and level sites, it is especially welcoming for big-rig owners who prefer a hassle-free setup. It serves as a perfect base for those looking to explore the tri-state area of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota while enjoying a peaceful riverfront setting.

Large FHU, pull thru site with cable and free wifi that was good enough to stream video. And all for $37! Easy on/off for I-29. Very little "city driving" to get to this park. Some sites are first come first serve. We arrived on a Saturday around 3pm and they still had 2 large pull thru's and a handful of back ins available. This campground is in the middle of a metro area so you've got noise. Sites closest to the river will get I-29 noise which is directly across the river in Iowa. Sites on the west side are next to a water park and athletic fields. When they close you have traffic noise from apartment complexes. Those with rigs 35 feet and up might find the campground roads tight. TIP: No parking in front of the office or after. If you are big, stop right after the dumpsters as soon as you pull in. Office is the first building in front of you.

We experienced a very hospitable front office staff. Deb went above and beyond to help us out when we had to delay our departure in order to obtain RV repairs. The park is very convenient to both the interstate highways and access to local business yet isolated and quiet. It includes a great view of the river. We will definitely stay again.
