Seaquest

Overview

Seaquest State Park serves as a premier gateway for those exploring the volcanic landscapes of Southwest Washington. Nestled within a lush, temperate forest, this 475-acre year-round park offers a serene escape for RV travelers looking to immerse themselves in nature. Managed by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, the facility provides a structured and well-maintained environment. The park is defined by its towering trees and its strategic position near the famous Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, making it an essential stop for any Pacific Northwest road trip.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Castle Rock, Washington, the park is conveniently located directly across from the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the dense greenery of the Cascades and the adjacent waters of Silver Lake. This unique positioning provides a blend of deep forest seclusion and easy access to major geographical landmarks. The park layout allows for total immersion in local flora, with a network of forested trails that connect the camping loops to the nearby lakefront and educational exhibits.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground is well-equipped for various RV sizes, offering several full-utility campsites that include water, power, and sewer connections. For those seeking a more rustic experience, there are numerous standard sites nestled under the heavy tree canopy. Essential facilities for comfortable travel include:

  • Clean restrooms and hot showers
  • A convenient RV dump station
  • Seven miles of wooded hiking trails
  • On-site playground and grassy fields
The park also features several covered kitchen shelters and picnic areas, making it easy for groups to gather and enjoy the outdoors regardless of the weather.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for visitors is the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, where travelers can learn about the 1980 eruption and subsequent ecological recovery. A short walk from the campground leads to the Silver Lake wetland boardwalk, which is excellent for birdwatching and photography. Anglers and boaters will enjoy the proximity to Silver Lake, a popular spot for catching bass and crappie. For a more intensive experience, a scenic drive up State Route 504 takes travelers to the Johnston Ridge Observatory for panoramic views of the volcanic crater.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts and families who prefer a quiet, wooded atmosphere over a commercial resort vibe. It is particularly well-suited for travelers seeking a comfortable basecamp for volcanic exploration without sacrificing modern conveniences. Great experience at an almost empty campground. Was pleasantly surprised with the park. Very beautiful and more wide open space than most wooded PNW parks.

We're a family of 6. We really enjoyed our stay. There's not a lot of privacy but the amenities are worth the fees. Hot showers, clean bathrooms and a park. Everything is very well kept. We had 1 large tent and 2 smaller ones at site 21 and had plenty of room.

Had a great time camping and checking out Mt St Helens Visitor Center nearby from the connecting trail. The sites and bathrooms were in good shape.

We were lucky enough to get a site last Saturday evening for the night. It was a great camp ground, we can't wait to plan a trip there and stay for more than 1 night. The gal that helped us at the Ranger Station was so nice and very helpful. I didn't get her name but the initials on my receipt are KW, she spoke with a great accent and was just the nicest, helpful person for someone that had never been there before and was asking several questions.

We stopped here to see views of Mt St Helens but it was so foggy/hazy you could barely see it. We purchased some souvenirs and were about to leave and were telling our disappointment to the Ranger/worker and they suggested driving about 30 minutes more to Toule to the Forest science center. Thank you so much for the information. It was spectacular!
