Host wasn’t present when we arrived. Facility info said host will assign campsite but there was no host to be found. We eventually chose a site, started unpacking, then the host rolled up, and confirmed our reservation. Shower had no heads and were not working, birds nest in one coin machine, didn’t mention we needed coins for showers to begin with, cockroaches present in campsite and traffic noise was horrendous. I advise to stay somewhere else.

Don’t Waste Your Money Here! The camp host was incredibly rude and unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. Instead of a simple “hello,” we were immediately barked at with “CASH OR CHECK?!” even though we had already made reservations online. When I mentioned our reservation, she sarcastically mocked me saying, “You should have said that”—even though we had just arrived and hadn’t been given a chance to explain. The bathrooms were in terrible condition: no soap, leaking toilets, and showers that didn’t work at all. The lake itself could’ve been nice, but it was littered with glass shards—seriously dangerous. You absolutely need to wear shoes in the water. For how much they charge ($80 for two nights), this place is absolutely not worth it. I’ve stayed at many free campsites that were 100 times better maintained and more welcoming. Save your time and money—camp elsewhere!

So i have mixed feelings about this campsite. I am a local and have been wanting to camp here awhile because of all the rocks and boulders and proximity to the lake. Overall it was a great experience but i cant rate it any higher than a 3 due to the rude camp host. She wasn’t even onsite the first 2 days of our trip and seemed to kind of pick and choose when to due her job. i was there for five days and the restrooms were not cleaned once while i was there, and she seemed to have an attitude towards the campers when she was asked any questions.

Camp ground is nice as long as it is not crowded.

It would of been a more enjoyable camp for me if there were more shade to cover us from the sun. Also there has been many complaints about the showers not working for years. It's still the same showers don't work so bring a bucket and find a spot to rinse your self. Never camping again in the summer again it was extremely hot and there are not alot of trees for shade here at boulder gulch. One more thing the water at the lake was smelly alot of broken glass wear proper foot protection.

Was stuck there for about 4 hours trying to to get home to kernville when a fire broke out. It was hot but not a bad place to be. Caught big wild rainbow in the cove. Water high in lake.

I love Boulder Gulch. Not just because I am the host, but there's something about it that feels like home. It's true, the showers have not worked in years, but the shower rooms can still be used for changing and I try to keep them clean. It is close to the lake for swimming, but there is a section of water that does have leeches, but not the whole shore. There is plenty of room in the dumpster for Campground trash but most people are unsure of its location and tend to use the cans in the restrooms, but I'm working on that. Admittedly the bathrooms aren't always in great shape and that's my fault, no excuses. I sincerely apologize. I know it's hot this time of year, and it doesn't appear like there's much shade, but there's more than you realize. And there's plenty of cool places to go to beat the heat in the daytime. It's fulfilling to watching families ride bikes or walking back from the lake, or exploring the area. So many good memories being made. Yup, I have to say that I love Boulder Gulch, and I'm trying to ensure that you will too. Life gets complicated and I'm not perfect, but your family and your memories matter to me. I hope to see you again and for generations to come. Your Host, Billiegirl

Clean, rustic, picturesque. Water at sites available. Working clean toilet. Great pink light on the Eastern mountains during sunset. Go during full moon!

Bathrooms had roaches but were out in the "wilderness" so it didn't bug us that much. We just used the port-a-potties if we needed to. Very very beautiful place. Definitely will use this campground again.

During the week, very few campers, just the way I like it. Friday, very busy but still good camp spot. The campground host is excellent. She is very friendly and helpful with any questions. One of my favorite camp sites.

Stayed two weeks. We weren't told that being handicap we could get a half price discount. It was pretty clean and relaxing. The fishing was great and the swimming was refreshing. We saved on gas by not driving our rig around but used the bus, there's is a bus stop across the road in front of Hungry Gulch! This has been one of our favorite places for many years. I myself have been coming to this lake for 53 years now!
