Stayed june 2020. No campfires allowed so bring a stove and propane. Definitely bring a easy up. No shade anywhere. Its desert hot. Access to river in the front and thru out many campsites. A lot of boulders and rocks in the sites-made it hard to find a good spot for the tent. Vault toilets thru out with big rooms and doors. Water spigots thru out. 1 big trash in the front next to camp host who kept to herself. Would definitely go back just not in the middle of summer. Also heard about 4-6 jets a day that would break the sound barrier that would scare my 6 year old. They flew right over the campsite daily.

This was my first time camping here and I absolutely loved it. The campground sits next to a more mellow part of Kern River so it's a great spot to swim and relax. I would definitely recommend that if you book your campsite online that you compare the map on Recreation to Google maps. That's how I was able to find one of the shadier campgrounds--look for trees on the map. I would also recommend keeping your food in the bear box they provide, not for bears but for raccoons. We woke up one morning to find our cooler tipped over. If you like to fish, I'd recommend walking south along the main road where you'll see a no camping sign and if you walk out to the river from that point you'll have better luck catching a fish than by the campground.
