Sequoia RV Park

Overview

Sequoia RV Park serves as a peaceful gateway to the high Sierras. Nestled in the foothills of Dunlap, California, this park provides a tranquil home base for travelers exploring the rugged beauty of the San Joaquin Valley and the adjacent national forests. It offers a rustic mountain charm combined with the essential comforts needed for a multi-day stay in the California wilderness. The atmosphere is quiet and unpretentious, allowing the natural landscape to take center stage.

Location & Surroundings

Situated directly along Highway 180, the park sits at an elevation that offers a refreshing break from the valley heat. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills and native oak trees, providing a scenic transition into the towering peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Its location is strategically chosen for those who want to avoid the congestion of inner-park lodging while remaining just a short drive from the Kings Canyon National Park entrance, making daily excursions into the forest simple and efficient.

Amenities & Park Features

The park accommodates various setups with full hookup sites that include water, sewer, and both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. Travelers will find functional gravel pads, including several spacious pull-thru sites designed to accommodate larger RV units and tow vehicles. On-site facilities include clean restrooms, hot showers, and laundry equipment for guest convenience. For those traveling with pets, the park is pet-friendly, and the generous natural shade from mature trees helps keep the grounds comfortable during the warm summer months.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the proximity to the General Grant Grove, home to one of the world's largest giant sequoias. Visitors can easily take day trips to Hume Lake for fishing and kayaking or explore the dramatic vistas of Kings Canyon. Beyond the national parks, the surrounding Dunlap area is a world-renowned destination for hang gliding and paragliding, offering a unique opportunity to watch adventurers soar over the scenic valley from nearby mountain launch sites, providing entertainment right from the foothills.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for national park enthusiasts who prioritize location and accessibility over resort-style luxuries like pools or organized activities. It appeals strongly to outdoor adventurers and families seeking a quiet basecamp to return to after a long day of hiking. If you prefer a simple, clean, and well-maintained environment that puts the focus on the surrounding natural wonders, Sequoia RV Park fits your travel style perfectly.

We stayed at this RV Park last night for a quick overnight stop on the way to the Sequoia National Park. The information available makes it appear to be a nice park, not so much. It is extremely run down. Very pricey. Includes full hookups, WiFi (which was pathetic), has bathrooms and showers (though we intentionally chose not to use), and laundry (didn't even bother to look). We arrived at 4:30 pm on a weekday and no one in the office, you have to call or text for anything. The worst park for the price we've experienced. I would only go back if I had to in order to go to the National Park, but would seek alternate options instead.

Although the owners apparently live on site, they are hard to find. We needed a single night. Easy check in...sort of. It's all by text and the manager/owner eventually responds, so you may not know for a couple of hours if it's ok to stay. We checked out 2 sites before settling on one. The electric hook-ups are sketchy - posts loose, wires exposed...but we were able to hookup. Same with water hook-up. The showers were in horrible condition - hadn't been cleaned in months at best. And it wasn't mess/dirt from recent use, it was neglect: Electrical boxes exposed, the curtain was more mold than whatever color it was meant to be. I don't know where all the compliments in these reviews are coming from - this place is a dive, no two ways about it. But it's the only game in town and it appears they know it!

45 $ for a piece of grass next to the trash bins... It's smelly, everywhere trash is laying around and the bathrooms almost feel deserted. Nobody is checking you in and I don't know if somebody is working there or just texting and taking money. Worst value campground on our US trip...

Booked online for one night. 68$ including taxes and fees. 60 if you just show up and self register... Big wide open and green. Quiet. Not sure what you're paying for here though. Shower in the office is 2/10. Super steamy as exhaust fan doesn't work (clean though). Campground could be amazing but just seems like it's been run into the ground for the last 20 years other than the lawn care. Nice flower bushes. Good for a night. Close to Sequoia NP.
