Sequoyah

Overview

Sequoyah State Park, located on the scenic shores of Fort Gibson Lake, serves as a premier destination for RV travelers seeking a blend of natural beauty and outdoor adventure. As one of Oklahoma's most popular state parks, it offers a vast landscape for exploration and relaxation across over 2,000 acres. The park is managed to provide a versatile camping experience, balancing the tranquility of the woods with modern conveniences. Whether you are arriving for a weekend getaway or a longer seasonal stay, the welcoming atmosphere makes it a staple for regional travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the rolling hills of eastern Oklahoma, the park is nestled on a peninsula almost entirely surrounded by the waters of Fort Gibson Lake. This unique geography creates a peninsula environment where water activities and hiking trails meet seamlessly. Travelers arriving from nearby Hulbert or Muskogee will find themselves immersed in a lush forest canopy that provides ample shade and privacy for many campsites. The surrounding area is characterized by scenic shorelines and diverse local wildlife, offering a peaceful escape from the faster pace of highway travel.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features multiple campgrounds equipped with a variety of site types to accommodate different rigs, from compact campers to large motorhomes. Many sites offer full hookups, including water, sewer, and 50-amp electric service, while others provide a more traditional water and electric setup. Guests have access to modern comfort stations with clean showers and restrooms located throughout the camping loops. Beyond the campsites, the park boasts a full-service marina, an 18-hole golf course, and the Three Forks Nature Center, ensuring you have access to recreational luxuries right on-site.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

There is no shortage of activities within and just outside the park boundaries. Visitors often spend their days boating and fishing on the lake or exploring the miles of multi-use trails perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Just a short drive away, the city of Tahlequah offers rich cultural history at the Cherokee Heritage Center. For those interested in local history, the nearby Fort Gibson Historic Site provides a glimpse into 19th-century frontier life, making it a perfect educational day trip for families and history buffs alike.

The campsites are well maintained. It's generally peaceful! We've camped twice in the Cherokee area. We've found pecans abd persimmon on hikes.

Beautiful park, massive. Bathrooms and showers would make my clean freak momma proud. Lake front spot to camp. Coyote was a highlight at the nature center.

I love this place! So beautiful with all the pine trees, playground, tennis courts, walking trails, golf course...horse back riding..(not sure when they actually have horses?) Boat ramps need a bit of help...high water this summer made them hard to use...

Loved it. Didn't know this little gem was so close to us. Went for a day trip to check out. We'll be going back for camping. Did notice some of the site's bathrooms were horribly old to new ones with air and really clean. You might check those out before your pick a spot for primitive camping.

I have been going to Sequoyah State Park for 50 years. We love it here. Well-maintained and family-friendly. Now our boat is at Paradise Cove Marina. Ann is the absolute best!! The marina is spotless, and their boat shop is fantastic and does excellent work!
