Really nice place. Fishing, park, volley ball courts, restaurant with alcohol, camping store, shower house with toilets and pit toilets. Kayak and canoe rentals. No swimming but allowed to paddle board. Campsites are nice, some private some not. Two small sleeping cabins facing lake.

I loved the lake. Everything is so close and there are a few trails you could do in one day. I stayed on a very large lot, with electricity and a large fire put. It had stone boundaries and no iron to cook on (fyi). Beautiful forested areas and great shade for those hot days.

After a 2 year hiatus, it was fabulous getting out the tent and camping gear. My new puppy and I enjoyed 4 days of camping, fresh nightly cool air, and hotdogs cooked over the fire. We even had family come out during one day to check out the grounds for maybe their stay. Our daily hiking through the woods was fabulous, along with meeting up in the mornings with the family of deer. The only "complaint " ... I'm not a fisherman, but I wanted to rent the small pontoon to tour the lake, since there is no beach and the lake seems to be a very hot spot for boaters. I was disappointed that on weekends there is a 4 hour limit to rent. I'm one person in my stay and would've loved to be accommodated. Even if I could've rented for a few hours. The man behind the counter was not very friendly and only seemed to care for those who came to fish. I think you should rethink about making the customers happy. There are others willing to rent tgat atent interested in fishing. We might come back with others. 😉 Other than that, I was thrilled with the restaurant, the picnic areas, the walking trails, other campers I met, and everything else about the park. AND the store! Perfect for last minute things. Hotdogs, buns, ice, fire wood, matches, batteries, etc. Do I plan on coming back? Yes. But I will not visit the boat rentals unless they change their rules to accommodate those who do not want to fish. Just sayin

Spent the weekend at Shabbona Lake State Campground in Shabbona IL. Very nice campground with private sites. Some were pretty level, others were not(don’t book site 76 if you’ve got an RV) Out site was nice with a lot of green space and access to the lake to fish. Lake is large and kayaking is perfect on it. Shower house is nice and clean although there is only one for the entire campground. You can rent kayaks, pontoon, fishing and row boats for a fee. There is a restaurant on site but we didn’t go. I did see the menu and there is a lot to choose from at reasonable prices. There is a camp store with a great selection of inventory and ice cream. There are several potable water spigots and vault toilets(very clean!) throughout the park. Plenty of hiking trails as well. All this for $25 per night.

One of my better camping experiences!! This is my 2nd time taking my 5yo son camping since he was born and we had an amazing time at this campground! The park is so well maintained, not crowded, clean, and provided us plenty to do. Check in was easy and informative, very straightforward. Our site 99 was the perfect location! It was only two sites away from the shower/toilet buildings. Perfect distance and great shade. It felt private, however the site across from us looked even more private (more trees surrounding). Highly suggest booking sites 62 or 99. Each site has a very large fire pit with a concrete ring. We had some noise issues from our neighbors close to the loop but it comes with the camping territory. Our site vs the next site over in the loop was like night and day. Quiet time is at 10pm but our neighbs were definitely bumping music until 12-1am (although I didn’t hate the fire throwback playlist they had going). The showers were so incredibly clean and little to no bugs!!! I was so happy. They close the building from 10-11am daily for cleaning. The woman’s bathroom had 5 shower stalls and three toilet stalls. There are pitted toilets every 4-5 campsites scattered all throughout the campground if you’re not near the shower building. Camp store was a very short drive away next to the lake and a playground. If you drive 8 minutes through the park you’ll hit the boat rental, restaurant and sunflower fields. Overall we had the best time and I’ll definitely be back!
