Sharbot Lake

Overview

Sharbot Lake Provincial Park offers a quintessential Canadian Shield experience, characterized by dramatic granite outcrops and lush mixed forests. Located on a narrow peninsula, this destination provides a peaceful retreat for those exploring the historic Land O' Lakes region of Eastern Ontario. It is a place where the sounds of loons and the sight of clear water define the daily outdoor experience for visitors looking to disconnect and enjoy the natural beauty of the province.

Location & Surroundings

Conveniently situated directly along Highway 7, the park is easily accessible for travelers moving between Peterborough and Ottawa. The unique geography of the park places the campground on a thin strip of land between Sharbot Lake and Black Lake, offering campers dual waterfront access and diverse views. The surrounding terrain features rugged hills and pristine shorelines, making it a scenic landmark and a popular stop in rural Frontenac County.

The park caters to RV travelers with a variety of features designed for a comfortable and functional stay. Key amenities include:

  • Several electrical campsites designed to accommodate various rig sizes and equipment types.
  • Well-maintained comfort stations providing campers with flush toilets, hot showers, and laundry facilities.
  • A dedicated trailer sanitation station and fresh water filling area for self-contained units.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Hikers will appreciate the Discovery Trail, which winds through the forest to a high ridge offering panoramic views of both lake systems. The waters here are a haven for anglers targeting walleye and smallmouth bass, while the calm surfaces are perfect for canoeing. Just a short drive away, the village of Sharbot Lake offers local cafes and access to the K&P Trail, a famous multi-use rail trail perfect for long-distance cycling and hiking.

I recently visited Sharbot Lake with a few friends, and it was such an amazing experience. The lake itself is stunning – clear, calm waters surrounded by beautiful forests. We spent our days kayaking, swimming, and just soaking in the peaceful vibes. One of my favorite parts was sitting by the lake in the evening, watching the sunset. The colors reflecting off the water were absolutely magical. It felt like time slowed down, and we could truly relax. We also explored some of the nearby trails, which were easy to access and offered great views of the area. The small-town charm added to the experience – the locals were super friendly, and we found a cozy spot for coffee that made us feel right at home. If you’re looking for a quiet getaway to reconnect with nature, I can’t recommend Sharbot Lake enough. It’s the perfect spot for a weekend escape, whether you’re into outdoor activities or just want to unwind by the water. I’m already planning my next trip back!

Honestly 10/10. Super cozy sites, clean water facilities, amazing comfort station, everything is so close and convenient. Really nice and friendly staff. Wonderful little park and campground. The only negative is the proximity to highway 7 . You do hear cars at all hours but it's not that bad really.

By far, the most beautiful sunrises of any provincial park I've been to. Our campsite was right on the lake (#82) it was a perfect campsite. So much stuff to do here. The discovery trail was beautiful, which takes about 30 minutes. You can rent canoes $60 for 24 hours, which isn't bad at all. If you have a lakeside campsite you can just keep it there. You can paddle around black lake or take a short portage to sharbot lake. Both are very nice. Did some fishing on black lake but the big fish weren't biting, little ones were tho. Facilities were always clean and like every provincial park the staff were always helpful and extremely nice.

Beautiful, smaller park but extremely clean. We enjoyed kayaks on the lake and listening to the Loons in the evenings. The town of Sharbot Lake is a short drive away with all amenities (groceries gas, hardware store, LCBO, bakery, etc.).

This park is located on two beautiful, clear lakes that offer great swimming, canoeing, boating and fishing. Nature trails are picturesque and offer a great variety of scenery: Discovery Trail - 1.2 km loop, 1hour, moderate. Ridgeview Trail - 0.5 km return, 30 minutes, easy to moderate. Two sandy beaches located on Black Lake are great for swimming. The majority of campsites at Sharbot Lake have vehicle access. A few sites do not have space for a on the site, however designated parking areas are just a short walk away. There are over 150 treed campsites, some with electricity and two that are barrier-free. Large trailers can be accommodated in the Beach Front and Maple Grove Campgrounds.
