Silver Lake

Overview

Silver Lake Provincial Park offers a quintessential Eastern Ontario camping experience right on the shores of its namesake lake. Situated along Highway 7, it serves as an accessible retreat for RVers looking for a blend of natural beauty and convenient travel. The park is well-regarded for its scenic waterfront and family-friendly atmosphere, making it a popular summer destination for regional travelers and long-distance explorers alike. It balances the rugged nature of the region with well-maintained facilities for a comfortable stay.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the heart of Lanark County near Maberly, the park is characterized by its proximity to the Canadian Shield, featuring rocky outcrops and mixed forests. The lake itself is noted for its clarity and relatively warm shallow waters, providing a pleasant environment for water recreation. The surrounding landscape includes lush marshland habitats and diverse wildlife, offering a tranquil backdrop that feels secluded despite its proximity to the main highway corridor.

Amenities & Park Features

The park accommodates RVs with various site types, including electrical hookup sites that cater to modern camping needs. Facilities include clean comfort stations equipped with flush toilets and showers, ensuring a comfortable outdoor stay. Families often take advantage of the sandy beach area, which is protected and features shallow entry points. For those bringing their own vessels, a convenient boat launch provides easy access for fishing trips or afternoon paddling sessions across the calm water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can explore the historic town of Perth, famous for its 19th-century limestone architecture and boutique shops. Outdoor enthusiasts often head to the Marsh Trail within the park, a wooden boardwalk that allows for easy observation of local bird species. For those interested in broader exploration, the nearby Tay River offers scenic kayaking routes, while local heritage sites in Maberly provide insight into the region's early logging and farming history.

Who This Park Is Best For

This location is ideal for families and couples seeking a water-focused getaway without straying too far from main transit routes. Because of the shallow beach and gentle terrain, it is particularly well-suited for those traveling with young children or seniors. It also serves as an excellent midpoint stopover for RVers traversing between Ottawa and Toronto who appreciate a natural setting with the convenience of easy highway access and essential services.

Would recommend visiting here for a day trip, not camping. The noise from HWY 7 is loud at all hours of the night. The washrooms need updating and cleaning like the other numerous reviews say. The park itself is well maintained and the water is nice.

The best provincial park around. Definitely my go to campground. Been coming here for 25 yrs. It's very clean, the beach is beautiful, campsites are a good size, and the washrooms, garbages and paths are spotless. The summer students are like ants they just don't stop. It's nice to see they take pride in their job. Would give 10 stars if I could.

Amazing camp ground! A beautiful beach area for the family to enjoy! Only one hiking path but it's a great one for children to explore and look for frogs, turtles, and bugs. Very clean and friendly family oriented vibes.

My husband and I had such a lovely time at Silver Lake this past week. Our campsite (42) had excellent privacy, was surrounded by water (the breeze kept the site cool and the bugs away during the day), and was very spacious. The majority of the other sites are on par with the other provincial parks we have stayed at in terms of quality and privacy. In my view, many of the sites are out of the question either due to proximity to Highway 7 or to the marsh. It's a small park with fewer things to do than some others but they do a great job of offering extra activities (e.g. meditation walks, etc.) to provide some extra entertainment. The washrooms at the comfort stations were average but the showers were atrocious. They need to be properly cleaned every day instead of just hosed down. The sites themselves all look well maintained and we saw people out maintaining the grass in and around the sites. The staff were all very friendly. We needed a boost when we left the site, which the Park was able to accommodate. The staff were all very friendly, especially Bob. I have rated 4/5 stars because of the road noise and showers, such combined, made it slightly less desirable than some of the other 5-star parks we've stayed at before. All-in-all, my husband and I had a fantastic trip and will be returning.

This place has a lot to offer to campers and visitors. Kudos to the staff who clean this park, washrooms, picnic area and parks are very neat and clean. It has lots of beautiful picturesque landscapes to offer. We went there on the weekend for a picnic and it was quiet and cloudy. Definitely worth an hour plus drive from Ottawa!
