Siuslaw/Driftwood II
Overview
Driftwood II is a specialized camping destination nestled within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Located just south of Florence, this campground provides a unique rustic experience characterized by its proximity to shifting sands and coastal forests. While many visitors come for the motorized recreation, the park offers a serene backdrop of shore pine and evergreen shrubbery, creating a peaceful atmosphere for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the rugged beauty of the Pacific Northwest coast.
Location & Surroundings
Situated within the Siuslaw National Forest, the park is positioned conveniently between the Siltcoos River and the vast Pacific Ocean. The surroundings are defined by the world-famous sand dunes that stretch for miles along the coastline. Being just a short drive from the historic town of Florence, Oregon, travelers have easy access to local seafood and supplies while remaining fully immersed in a coastal wilderness environment where the sound of the wind and distant surf prevails.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a traditional forest service campground, meaning it emphasizes a natural experience over luxury resort features. The park offers paved parking spurs suitable for a variety of RV sizes, though it does not provide water, sewer, or electric hookups. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, and visitors have access to vault toilets and potable water spigots throughout the loop. The most significant feature is the direct sand access, allowing motorized vehicles to enter the dunes directly from the campground.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for many visitors is the OHV riding on the expansive Siltcoos dune area. Beyond the dunes, visitors can explore the Siltcoos Lake for fishing and kayaking or visit the nearby Heceta Head Lighthouse for stunning coastal views. The historic Old Town Florence offers charming shops and waterfront dining. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the various hiking trails that wind through the wax myrtle and huckleberry bushes, offering glimpses of local wildlife and unique geological formations.
Who This Park Is Best For
Driftwood II is ideal for OHV enthusiasts who want immediate access to the dunes without having to haul equipment long distances. It is also a perfect fit for self-contained RVers who enjoy dry camping and prefer a quiet, wooded setting over a commercial RV park. If you are looking for a basecamp that prioritizes outdoor adventure and proximity to nature over modern amenities like Wi-Fi or swimming pools, this coastal gem is a fantastic choice for your next Oregon adventure.

We purchased wood from a vendor in Florence and as I was offloading it the "camp host" mentioned how he's "had to call the cops because the flames were six inches over the fire pit". He didn't even introduce himself before he walked into our site. I didn't even have a fire burning.

Great campground close to the beach! We always have an amazing time here. Camp hosts are the best!

We come every year. The showers are kept clean as are the restrooms. The hosts are typically laid back as long as you're not making trouble. Dune access is close, with a short drive to the beach. You can hike as well, its about half a mile walk, and the hill is one to remember. A trip we look forward to every year! 2023 update- we had our first bad experience with someone stealing our gas cans on the first night. Lock your stuff up, I'm sorry to say it. But better safe than sorry. We'll be back again next season, but maybe the next folks won't. 2024 update- we locked our gear up, no trouble this year except for the massive family sand camped right off the entrance road. Can't win them all, but maybe next year they will gather further away. (We can hope) Showers weren't kept as clean this time around, we always pack shower shoes, just in case. The showers were free this season. See you in 2025!

We ended up getting here late so we set up in the dark at 1 in the morning. The campsites are a bit close to each other but the parking is spacious and there’s nice spaces for tents. Trucks and dune buggy’s started running at about 8am so it’s a bit noisy, but that should be expected. The bathrooms are good quality and there are showers. The camp host was very friendly and nice! He even gave us some free laundry tokens!

Great for camping, the spaces are big, the showers are hot, the bathrooms are clean. The staff left us alone and we had a great time riding the dunes.
