Siuslaw/Horsfall
Overview
Located within the vast expanse of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, the Horsfall area near North Bend offers a premier destination for coastal adventure. Managed by the Siuslaw National Forest, this site serves as a central hub for visitors looking to explore the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America. The atmosphere here is high-energy and focused on the great outdoors, providing a unique landscape where temperate rainforests meet towering hills of shifting sand. It is a place where nature's power and motorized recreation go hand in hand.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just north of North Bend, Oregon, the park is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the dense coastal forest. The surroundings are defined by dramatic sand dunes that stretch for miles, offering glimpses of the blue ocean through the evergreen trees. The location provides a rugged, natural setting where the sound of the crashing surf often mixes with the hum of activity on the dunes. It is an ideal spot for those who want to be immersed in the unique geography of the Central Oregon Coast.
Amenities & Park Features
Horsfall is designed with the specific needs of off-roaders in mind, featuring paved parking pads that are spacious enough to accommodate large RVs and heavy-duty trailers. While the campground offers a more rustic experience without individual hookups, it provides essential facilities for a comfortable stay:
- Potable water stations located conveniently throughout the campground loops.
- Well-maintained vault toilets and regular trash collection services.
- Large campfire rings and sturdy picnic tables at every individual site.
The layout is functional and intentionally rugged, prioritizing direct access to the dunes over luxury resort features.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for most visitors is the immediate access to the OHV riding trails, which cater to a wide variety of skill levels across the massive dunes. For those seeking a quieter pace, the nearby Bluebill Lake Trail offers a scenic boardwalk hike through lush wetland habitats and coastal forests. The nearby city of North Bend provides access to the historic McCullough Memorial Bridge and various local shops, while the beach itself is perfect for long walks and watching the sunset over the Pacific.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts who want the convenience of riding directly from their campsite into the open sand. It is a perfect fit for travelers who enjoy a lively, active environment and are prepared for a dry camping experience in a stunning national forest setting. Dry camping. Access to the sand dunes and beach. North of this access point is open to driving on the beach. Value toilets and potable water. Fire rings for the back in sites. Lock your stuff up.

I have come here twice now and I have enjoyed it very much each time. The sand is super soft. Lots of jelly fish on the beach, big ones. Very nice and clean beach.

Looking at lower lake levels as we wrap up July 2023. A month ago, the quad would have been deep in the water at the same location. Also, overlooking the North Bend Airport, Old Bark Rd Staging and Day Use Area, Horsfall Lake ...
