Overview
The Siuslaw/Lagoon Campground offers a serene escape within the Siuslaw National Forest just south of Florence, Oregon. Tucked away near the Siltcoos River, this park provides a classic Pacific Northwest camping experience defined by fresh ocean breezes and lush greenery. It serves as an ideal base for those wanting to explore the diverse ecosystems of the Oregon Coast, ranging from dense spruce forests to the massive shifting sand dunes that define this region.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated in the heart of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, a unique landscape of wind-sculpted sand. It is positioned along the banks of a tidal estuary where the Siltcoos River flows toward the Pacific Ocean from the nearby Siltcoos Lake. The landscape is characterized by thick coastal shrubbery and towering Douglas firs, providing significant privacy between sites. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by the sounds of coastal birds and the gentle rustle of the forest canopy.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional forest service site, Lagoon Campground prioritizes a rustic connection to nature over modern luxuries. While there are no utility hookups, the park provides essential features for a comfortable stay:
- Potable water stations located conveniently throughout the loops.
- Paved parking spurs designed to accommodate moderate-sized RVs and trailers.
- Well-maintained vault toilets and refuse collection areas.
Every campsite is also equipped with a heavy-duty picnic table and a fire ring, making it easy to enjoy traditional campfire cooking and evening relaxation under the dense forest canopy.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the Lagoon Trail, a scenic one-mile loop that showcases local wetlands and wildlife. The nearby Siltcoos River is perfect for kayaking and canoeing, offering a peaceful paddle through the coastal forest. Just a short drive north, the city of Florence provides access to the historic Heceta Head Lighthouse and the famous Sea Lion Caves. The expansive sand dunes are also nearby for hiking, photography, and exploring the unique coastal geology.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is a perfect match for nature lovers and photographers who prefer tranquility over the bustle of a typical RV resort. It is ideal for RVers who are self-contained and seek a quiet atmosphere away from the noise of motorized staging areas. Because cell service can be limited, it is a great choice for those looking to disconnect and recharge. If you enjoy birdwatching and forest hiking, this lush coastal hideaway is an excellent Oregon Coast destination.

Mid April was fabulous here. The camp host was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable about local sites and activities. The restroom (second one was locked in the closed section of the campground) was centrally located, clean, and well stocked. Some sites are obviously better or more desirable than others, but this time of year (slow season) I was able to change sites easily to maximize my enjoyment. The nature trail around the campground was worth the evening stroll.

We made some great memories here, this camp ground has running water, electricity, multiple bathrooms pull through camp sites for RVs or trailers, large and small sites for tent camping and some cool hiking trails that go around the camp site. Some nice private sites here and the wind was low. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

Very disappointed in the overall condition of this campground when arriving the first week of June. Grass was high and not cut anytime recently, literally piles of trash at a site near ours (under the dumpster too), no host on duty for the 2 days we were there as well. For being a National Campground, it's not being run very well at all! While there we saw people from out of state and out of country, I was embarrassed that this was their impression of Oregon. Won't be back to this one anytime soon. :-(

Stayed in site 25 with a teardrop trailer. bathrooms were behind site; but not close enough to be a bother. Site is very large and easily could fit multiple tents. Site comes with picnic table and firepit. Plenty of privacy between sites. $44 for a Fri to Sun stay plus $8 for recreation.gov

Very nice campground. Had a great time, but it was foggy 75% of the time. And there was a burn ban in effect, as there should be this time of year. Gas grill worked just fine 😉
