The campgrounds were nice. No flushable toilets or showers but the beach that is at 55 site is outworldly! So take a bath there lol

This is our second time here in the last few years. It’s not a bad place, love the beach access. The bathrooms are disgusting, no showers or sinks at all, port a potty style “vault” toilets. Stinky and dirty. The sites are way too close together and we were shushed (😡shhh) every single night. We have a kid with us and it’s the weekend, we wanted to laugh and have s’mores by the campfire after our day of adventures. But we had to whisper and our fun was ruined with every shhh! It’s a 25 minute drive to the nearest shower and that campground seemed a lot more fun so we will probably check that one out next time.

Fabulous park service campground. Pit toilets were quite clean and lots of shady sites, many of which were quite private compared to state parks. We also got lucky with no black flies and mosquitoes! The lakeshore is a quick walk and the Sleeping Bear Heritage trail runs right through it. So easy to hop on bikes and get right up to the Dune climb on a paved path in just a few miles.

This campground is like being out in the middle of nowhere but still having access to water and a bathroom. Highly recommend this campground. Staff is friendly, hikes are great, beach front is gorgeous, bathrooms are clean.

We camped here for two nights with our dog and were very happy with it! It was a nice quiet campground. Our site was pretty large and fairly quiet. There aren’t any showers and the bathrooms are outhouses (which we knew when we booked), but the outhouses were pretty clean.

This was the star of our cross country trip. You cannot beat the location of this campsite. It’s walking distance to the beach where dogs are allowed and so are bonfires. We had no problems with bugs or poison ivy. It felt safe and close to incredibly charming towns and wineries. We will be back!

Loved this place. Right on the Sleeping Bear Dunes Trail for easy access with our bikes. Quiet campground. Decent sized sites. Pit toilets that were kind of stinky, but decently clean. We will be back.

Beautiful, rustic campground. Historic log cabin and Lake MI beach is within walking distance. They need to convert the D.H. Day restrooms over near the store, or the ones at the Life Saving Station, to have a few pay showers but otherwise all else great. Nearby Glen Arbor and Sleeping Bear Dunes.

This is a rustic campground. You have to walk maybe 1/2 mile to the beach. More or less. This campground went in before the campgrounds today that are back to back. Some sites all RV's, some only tents. Everyone is so kind. Such a pleasure to be in such a beautiful spot. Also, very busy in June, July and August. Spring and fall are better times.

The campground was clean relatively quiet. The beach was nice and the water was better. Spent 3 days in and on the bay. Beautiful bike paths.

We camped in a tent just a few minutes walk from the beach. We were so close we could hear the waves at night in our tent. The sunset over the lake was beautiful and the beach wasn't too crowded. In the morning we were one of only a few families exploring the beach. Our kids enjoyed searching for Petoskey stones in the pebbles and we had a wonderful lazy morning there. We didn't get to go explore the night sky because our kids fell asleep early and our campsite was heavily wooded but the pockets of sky that we could see were spectacular! We only stayed one night this time but we will definitely be back for a longer stay.

This place is wonderful EXCEPT there arent any shower houses close! U have to drive 30 minutes to Platte river to use one but there are plenty of clean bathrooms around...and clean water and drinking fountains dh day has super close access to Lake Michigan!

Tent camped at this campground this past weekend. It is a very simple campground. Vault toilets (they were fairly decent for a vault toilet ) , dumpsters throughout the park, with a few recycle bins and drinking fountains throughoutut. Site was cleared, surrounding the sites is a lot of poison ivy, so just watch the edges of where everything is cleared. You can buy "firewood" from a trailer vending machine. Cash wasn't working unless you had singles, so had to use credit card. $5 a box and did burn longer than the firewood I purchased from an approved vendor (sign at front of park). Quick walk to the beach, downtown area about 5 minutes down the road, trails nearby and plenty of activities within 45 mins. It was just my dog and I, did the scenic drive, ate at Art's Tavern, shopped in Petoskey Petes, went to the beach and checked out The Village of Grand Traverse which are all dog friendly options. Cherry Republic has a dog friendly patio, but store itself isn't. There's another patio across from Art's Tavern that has an icecream shop attached, along with a bar and a HUGE seating area. The guy working wasn't very friendly, and they aren't dog friendly. Coffee shop nearby, as well as a market store in case you forget anything. All photos attached are within the campground.

Probably the most beautiful campground I have stayed at, lots of shade, privacy, quiet. Very easy access to the beach and the paved Heritage Trail.

Favorite place in all of the world, for summertime fun, relaxation and quality family time. We have traveled (GraytJourneys4U.com) to many places, in many countries and D. H. Day has consistently been a family favorite for over 30 years. The only downside, which just began within the last couple of years, is that now instead of getting a campsite in a first-come, first-serve manner, you must have a reservation, which makes it very difficult to get into the camp grounds now. Many sites are reserved and not used. Make sure you check the website for availability frequently, for cancellations which will allow you to make a reservation for one of the greatest camping locations anywhere.
