Visitors often find themselves immersed in a mix of native prairie and hardwood forests, making it a picturesque stop for anyone traveling through the heart of the Midwest.
Location & Surroundings
Located just a few miles north of Lamoni, IA, the park is easily accessible from Interstate 35, yet it feels worlds away from the highway traffic. The landscape is defined by the winding river valley and dramatic elevations that are uncommon in other parts of the state. The wooded ridges provide excellent shade for campers, while the open upland areas offer expansive views of the Iowa countryside. It is a prime example of the rugged, natural beauty found in the Decatur County area.

Be aware that if you are traveling from out of town this county park is 3 miles off the main road on a gravel road. Do not drive past the campground with your trailer as there is no place to turn around. Gravel road dead ends in a farm field.😬

This park is accessible from a rest area off I34. Beautiful spot, clean grounds and restroom with several picnic spots and a great view!

It’s a little trek getting to this campground considering how close it is to the freeway but it was very peaceful. We were there on a Thursday night and there were only a couple other campers. Rates were $15 and $20 (electric) that you used an envelope to pay. There were nice, wide trails to walk on, a small lake, overlook with picnic area, a clean bathroom with showers, and a playground.
