Nestled just east of South Fork, Colorado, off US160, lies a hidden gem waiting to be discovered: Silver Thread Basecamp. Perched on the very edge of the Rio Grande National Forest, this campground offers an idyllic retreat for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. With 50 generously sized full-hookup (FHU) sites, Silver Thread Basecamp ensures you’ll find the perfect spot. The shaded, level sites provide a serene backdrop for your outdoor escape. But it’s not just about the sites—this campground boasts all the amenities you could wish for. From showers and laundry facilities to WiFi and a dedicated bark park, they’ve thought of everything. Families will appreciate the children’s playground, and even if you don’t have an RV, fear not! Luxurious covered wagons, accommodating up to six guests, and a rustic cabin await your stay. Tent campers will also find gorgeous, shaded sites to pitch their canvas abodes. Now, let’s talk about the pièce de résistance: the Rio Grande River. Silver Thread Basecamp sits on one of the best trout fishing spots this side of Creede, Colorado. Whether you’re an experienced angler or a novice with a rod, the river beckons you to cast your line and reel in memories. Imagine mornings spent by the water, the sun dappling the surface as you wait for that elusive tug. It’s a paradise for fishing enthusiasts, and you’ll find yourself immersed in the rhythm of nature. During our month-long stay, we reveled in the tranquility of Silver Thread Basecamp. The whispering pines, the rustle of leaves, and the distant rush of the Rio Grande—it all became part of our daily soundtrack. Whether we explored the forest trails, shared stories around the campfire, or simply gazed at the star-studded night sky, the grounds embraced us. So, fellow adventurers, if you seek a haven where nature and comfort intertwine, venture to #SilverThreadBasecamp. It’s more than a campground; it’s an invitation to create memories against the backdrop of Colorado’s rugged beauty.

Sorry, but I can't single out any one staff member to compliment. Every one of them went above and beyond to make each guest feel welcome and comfortable. The friendliness of the staff was also reflected in the cheerful attitudes of the other campers. Friendly dog breeds are welcome there, too. There are scenic surroundings, things to do in addition to just chilling out and there is a great little store filled with thoughtful but sometimes forgotten essentials.

We loved our week at Silver Thread Basecamp. The staff were extremely polite and helpful….Josh even escorted us to our site! Stephanie was knowledgeable and helpful. The showers/restrooms were always clean and well maintained. The laundry room had plenty of machines so we didn’t have to wait. The park is easily accessible to South Fork and the surrounding areas. So much to do and see! A plus for us was having the covered wagons on site so family without an RV could come and join in the adventures! We would highly recommend the park for families and anyone wanting to “get away”!

This campground was perfect. We had a spot near the river and it was beautiful. It was quiet and the camp spots are not crammed together. It was a little out of town and we loved it. This was truly a great camping experience. We will for sure stay here every time!!

We had a great time at Basecamp. The staff was helpful and very attentive. The location was close to town, close to the river, and very easy to get around. Our RV space had trees, a picnic table, and a nice fire pit. Overall it was a great experience and I would return!

Awesome campground! Everyone is pretty close together so would avoid if you're looking for space. It was very quiet at night, everyone respecting not making too much noise. Full hookup sites, some right against the river, was so relaxing listening to the water babble me to sleep. Camp staff will assist you to your spot and with backing up if you need it! Firewood sold on site $6 a bundle as well as ice and propane refills!

Nice campground. As of June 2021 the shower/bathroom is closed. Should have mentioned that on the website. Other than that, good stay. On site RV service guy is awesome!

Heavily treed, flat, quiet campground, located off a frontage road from main highway. Sites are good size, easy to back into or pull through. Electric, water, sewer. The Rio Grande is within feet of some sites. Lots of bird watching, ducks, and geese. Rich, the manager and other staff are friendly, happy to chat and answer questions about the area. Great couple days on the river. We will definitely stay at South Fork Campground again when we are in the locale. Thanks All!
