South Padre KOA

Overview

The South Padre Island KOA Holiday serves as a premier coastal destination for travelers exploring the tip of Texas. This resort-style park offers a refined camping experience where the focus is on relaxation and scenic views. Unlike more rustic camps, this facility provides a full-service environment that feels like a waterfront retreat, making it a reliable base for both short-term vacations and extended seasonal stays.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on the Laguna Madre side of the island, the park provides stunning sunsets over the water. It sits near the base of the Queen Isabella Causeway, offering convenient access to the mainland while remaining tucked away in a vibrant island atmosphere. The surrounding area is characterized by salt air, coastal breezes, and easy access to the Gulf of Mexico beaches just a short distance across the road.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-known for its impressive features, including the Pier 19 Restaurant and Bar located right on the property. Guests can enjoy a meal overlooking the water or take advantage of several park highlights:

  • A year-round swimming pool and hot tub for relaxation.
  • The large sunset deck perfect for evening gatherings and photography.
  • A dedicated KampK9 dog park for those traveling with pets.

Practical needs are met with a fitness center and modern laundry facilities, ensuring that travelers remain comfortable throughout their entire stay on the island.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the campsite, visitors can explore the wonders of Sea Turtle Inc. or spend a quiet morning at the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center. For those looking for adventure, dolphin watches and deep-sea fishing trips depart from nearby docks. The Island Metro shuttle stops right at the park, providing free transportation to various shops, dining spots, and public beach access points across the island.

Who This Park Is Best For

This KOA is ideal for families and Winter Texans who appreciate a social atmosphere and resort-level amenities. It appeals to RVers who prefer a structured environment with plenty of on-site activities rather than a primitive camping site. If you enjoy sunset views over the bay and want to be close to the island’s best attractions, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

The campground is located on the west side of the island, so you can enjoy the sunset. It's 5 minutes from the beach and downtown. It's well maintained, and the restrooms and laundry facilities are clean. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended!

We had a great greeting. I was really impressed with the staff. The showers were clean. Each has a bench and plenty of hooks. I used the coin laundry. A machine ate some money and jammed up. An after hours guy came to help and couldn’t have been nicer. They refunded the money lost in the machine quickly. Our space was level and quiet. When we were leaving we stopped at the office and the staff were great again. Great experience. I hope we can go back again. The cost for a gravel spot with no extras was about $97. I thought it was too high but I guess it’s the area.

Great park, clean facilities, nice pool, and everyone was very friendly. Excellent location to view SpaceX launches. Spaces are a little tight for big rigs (ours is a 42 ft 5er), but we managed to fit just fine. It this sight was on the beach, it's on the bay side, I would give it a solid 5.

Love it here! Everyone is so kind and we’ve had nothing to complain about for the 3 different times we’ve gone. The employees were kind enough to help my husband set up our rv and even took my kids for a small ride in their golf carts. The playground as well as the train ride are my kids favorite so that keeps them busy while we grill and relax. We stayed by the waterfront and it was amazing and my kids loved seeing the fish jumping first thing in the morning while taking our dogs out. Will continue visiting!

Excellent place to stay, I will be going back. Staff was very nice, helpful and friendly. We stayed in the tent area and it was very accommodating. Bath and shower area are just a short walk away. Pool was nice and refreshing. Views were nice. I plan on returning during a space x launch it's close enough you will have a spectacular view
