Spirit Lake Marina & RV Park
Overview
Spirit Lake Marina & RV Park provides a tranquil waterfront escape situated along the scenic St. Louis River in Duluth. Unlike typical roadside stops, this park serves as a dual-purpose destination, combining a functional marina with comfortable RV accommodations. It offers travelers a unique chance to wake up to stunning views of the water while remaining just a short drive from the city’s major urban attractions and rich industrial history. The atmosphere is peaceful and unhurried, reflecting the natural beauty of Northern Minnesota's protected waterways.
Location & Surroundings
The park is located in the western portion of Duluth, tucked away from high-traffic tourist centers and bustling shipping docks. It sits directly on Spirit Lake, a wide and calm basin of the St. Louis River, providing a lush environment with significant birdwatching opportunities. The property is conveniently adjacent to the Willard Munger State Trail, a paved path perfect for those who enjoy long-distance cycling, jogging, or walking through the serene wooded landscapes that define this iconic region of the state.
Amenities & Park Features
Guests will find well-maintained sites that include full hookups with both 30 and 50-amp electrical service to accommodate various rig sizes. Because it is a working marina, the park features an on-site boat launch and seasonal slips, making it incredibly easy to transition from the road to the water for a day of exploration. Essential comforts are provided via a clean shower house and laundry facilities, ensuring that long-term travelers have everything they need. The park also provides Wi-Fi access, helping guests stay connected during their riverfront retreat.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The location is a paradise for outdoor adventurers and families. You are just minutes from Spirit Mountain, which offers mountain biking in the summer and premier skiing in the winter. For a more relaxed pace, the Lake Superior Zoo is nearby, or you can take a 15-minute drive to explore the iconic Canal Park and Aerial Lift Bridge. The river itself is a prime spot for walleye fishing, offering great angling right from the park’s edge for those who enjoy spending their days on the water.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who prioritize water access and quiet evenings over being in a bustling downtown district. It is a perfect fit for fishing enthusiasts and boaters who want the convenience of keeping their vessel close to their rig. Families and couples looking for a serene home base to explore the North Shore will find the atmosphere here more relaxed than larger commercial campgrounds. If you prefer the sound of lapping waves over city traffic, this is your ideal Duluth destination.

Quiet campground. Still getting boats in the water. Friendly staff and ownership. Super close to awesome hiking, mountain biking and right on the St Louis River. Just dropped off camper for start of 2024 season and went on 4 mile hike out of the marina. Cannot wait to get the boat up for the season. Jumping up and down excited. Season for 2025 underway. More fun in store. Norm is ALL In.

It wasn't what I expected. It's quiet. There's not much to do at this campground unless you own a boat. At least I got some good sunrise 🌅 sunsets 🌇 Pictures 📸.

We took advantage of the Choo-choo kayak adventure. Will, our charming kayak carter, escorted us to the train. The train stopped for us, and then took us up the river. At the northern stop Will was there to meet us with the kayaks and we made our way down river back to the Marina. The staff at the Marina are very helpful. I highly recommend this way to see the St. Louis River and a bit of Duluth you don’t normally visit. It was a great way to spend a few hours.

I was hesitant to write a review as this place is truly a hidden gem and I would HATE IT if it was ever too popular that it would become difficult to book a stay! The property is very beautiful, close to downtown and Canal Park, quiet and was perfect for us while we were in Duluth for Grandma's marathon weekend. We have already booked again for next year! Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The shop there was so unique with some antiques, as well as fishing and camping supplies! Showers were very clean and plenty of hot water! Thanks for an awesome weekend!
