Spring Valley

Overview

Spring Valley State Park offers a peaceful retreat centered around the shimmering Eagle Valley Reservoir. Located in the high desert of eastern Nevada, this park provides a serene escape for RVers looking to disconnect from city life. The park covers over 1,200 acres and provides a vital oasis for both local wildlife and travelers seeking adventure. It is a place where the air is crisp and the landscape is defined by rugged rock formations and historic pioneer homesteads, making it a unique destination that blends natural beauty with rural Nevada history.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 20 miles east of Pioche, NV, the park sits at an elevation of nearly 6,000 feet. The surroundings feature dramatic volcanic tuff formations that change color with the shifting light throughout the day. The drive into the valley takes you through winding roads that highlight the geological diversity of Lincoln County. Because of its remote location, the area is exceptionally quiet, offering visitors expansive views of the desert horizon and some of the clearest night skies in the state for stargazing and photography.

Amenities & Park Features

The primary camping area, Horsethief Gulch, provides developed sites equipped with picnic tables and grills. While several sites are designed for primitive camping, there are utility hookups available for RVers who require power and water connections during their stay. The campground is designed to handle a variety of RV sizes, though visitors should be mindful of the interior loops. Key facilities include:

  • Clean restrooms and hot shower facilities for guests.
  • A sanitary dump station and fresh water fill area.
  • Multiple boat launches and designated picnic areas.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water activities are the main draw here, with the reservoir being a popular spot for trout fishing and paddleboarding. Visitors can explore the historic Millet Ranch buildings to learn about early 19th-century life in the region or hike the Stone Cabin Trail for panoramic views of the water. For those willing to drive a short distance, the nearby town of Pioche offers a glimpse into Nevada’s silver mining past with its historic courthouse and local museums. Birdwatchers will also find plenty to see, as the water attracts various migratory species throughout the year.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts and those seeking a quiet, rustic atmosphere far from the neon lights of the city. It is particularly well-suited for travelers who enjoy outdoor recreation like hiking and fishing without the crowds found at more commercial resorts. Families will enjoy the open spaces and the educational value of the historic sites, while solo travelers will find the solitude they crave. If you appreciate a slower pace of life and the stark beauty of the Nevada desert, this state park offers the perfect backdrop for your next RV adventure.

This is my favorite camping and fishing place. The lower camp ground has hook ups and there is hot showers and clean bathrooms, the park is cleaned and we'll kept up on. Good fishing and has a fishing cleaning station.

Stayed in May. Had site 34. Has electric. No water and sewer but water available in the park and a dump station just outside. Beautifully nestled between the mountains. No cell service except if you’re using Starlink. Several restrooms and a bathhouse also. New showers even have rain showerhead!! Amazing! Incredibly scenic drive coming in to the park!

Stunning. This is a great place for camping, hiking, and sightseeing. Words can't describe how beautiful this place is. Bring your pole if you enjoy fishing.

Stable power with shared potable water spigots nearby at the Horsethief Gulch campground. Sites vary by size but are clean and well spaced. Non-Residents pay a surcharge to visit and camp. Near the campground is a very convenient two station RV dump station. Very peaceful and quiet with trout fishing at the reservoir.
