Spruce Creek Campground

Overview

Spruce Creek Campground offers a serene retreat nestled along the banks of a cold-water trout stream in the scenic Mohawk Valley. This family-owned destination provides a peaceful atmosphere where the sounds of the creek and the rustle of the trees set the stage for a classic camping experience. It serves as a comfortable base for exploring the diverse landscapes and historical sites of Central New York while maintaining a quiet, nature-focused vibe.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside the village of Dolgeville, the park lies at the threshold of the Adirondack Mountains. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rolling hills, dense forests, and the rushing waters of the park's namesake creek, which flows directly through the property. Its proximity to the New York State Thruway makes it highly accessible while remaining secluded enough to offer a genuine escape from the hustle of more urbanized regions.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a variety of site options, including full hookup RV sites that accommodate larger rigs with ease. Visitors have access to clean bathhouses, a laundry facility, and a spacious pavilion for group gatherings. For recreation, the grounds include a playground, a dedicated game room, and several scenic hiking trails. The stocked trout stream itself is a major draw, offering opportunities for wading and fishing right from the edge of the campground.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure seekers will enjoy the close proximity to the Herkimer Diamond Mines, where visitors can prospect for unique quartz crystals just a short drive away. The historic Erie Canal and the charming city of Little Falls offer local shopping and dining experiences nearby. Nature lovers can head north into the Adirondack Park for extensive hiking and boating, while sports fans are within a manageable driving distance of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for families and outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate a quiet environment over a high-traffic resort atmosphere. It is a fantastic choice for anglers looking to fly fish or for travelers seeking a comfortable home base for Central New York day trips. If you prefer the charm of a wooded setting and the simplicity of creekside living, Spruce Creek offers the perfect balance of relaxation and regional exploration.

This has been one of our favorite spots to stay. The campground is immaculate. We are here in October so no bugs. Quiet and safe. Didnt use bathrooms or showers. Owner is extremely nice and helpful. FHU for $50!

Love our spot here. We rented a seasonal spot and from the 1st conversation the manager was awesome. He was super friendly and helpful with helping me get the right sized space. He also informed us of road work and an a different route to avoid it. Upon arrival the campground is beautiful. The spaces are big. There is grass in every site. Probably not a biggie for you east cost folks, but when you're from AZ it surely is and boy do they keep it nice. I can actually walk barefoot here with no worries. The manager is always working on something. He never rests. I do believe he is the hardest working man I ever met. There is laundry here. 2 coin operated washers and dryers. With a table and chairs for waiting and folding. The machines seem to work great. There is a restroom with several toilet stalls and 2 showers in the ladies side. My husband said the guys side was nice too. There is a pavilion that people keep having events at and a really cute playground. They even have a pirate ship and a brand spanking new splash pad for the kids. So if you're looking for a nice peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature, but also enjoy amenities this is your place.

We have 5 Golden Retrievers traveling with us. Their favorite activity is swimming. When I made the reservations it was one of the first questions that was asked, about swimming in the creek and being near it. I should’ve been more specific about what I wanted and expected. *You can enter the creek if you want to go down a 3-4 foot drop, something that I didn’t feel comfortable to have my crew do..especially when I noticed used tires in it and lots of overgrowth vegetation on the banks to access the creek. Not user friendly. *The kids playground area was in desperate need of cleaning the overgrown weeds out. *There not a lot of shade in camping areas. Each site has stone pad and grass area. *No dog park for them to stretch their legs.. although we did let them off leash in the field. The field is mowed and somewhat cleared. *Very sparse in having other campers around. *Our picnic table had rotted seat slats and needed to have boards replaced. *The fire pit doesn’t have a fire ring to contain the flames, so beware. *There’s lots of black flies that bite!! So bring repellent.. Even the dogs didn’t want to be outside.. It’s unfortunately not what we were expecting.

The owner was a very nice man who attended to every detail. Small store on site. Close to town. A nice river runs through for fishing. A campfire pit at each campsite makes for a copy evening. The only negative was the black flies. Bring repellent!

Peaceful & quiet during the week I stayed in August. Spots are easy to maneuver & spacy. Owner is helpful. People are friendly. There are alot of "ground" rules in order to preserve the land. Wi-fi is limited speed.
