St Clair Landing Campground
Overview
St Clair Landing Campground offers a classic, unpretentious Outer Banks experience directly on the waters of the Pamlico Sound. Unlike the larger corporate resorts in the area, this park maintains a family-owned, relaxed atmosphere that appeals to travelers seeking simplicity and natural beauty. It serves as a peaceful retreat where the focus remains on the coastal environment, allowing guests to enjoy an authentic Rodanthe experience away from the noise of more commercialized destinations.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Rodanthe on the narrow strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico Sound, the park provides a unique soundfront setting. While the campground sits on the sound side, the public beach access points are just a short walk or bike ride across Highway 12. The surrounding landscape is defined by vast salt marshes and the constant, refreshing coastal breeze, offering a sense of seclusion while remaining close to local shops and eateries.
Amenities & Park Features
The park focuses on providing essential comforts for the independent RVer, featuring sites equipped with water and electricity hookups. Visitors have access to a functional bathhouse and a wooden fishing pier that extends into the sound, which is a popular spot for crabbing or photography. The park layout is designed to maximize views, ensuring that the stunning soundside sunsets are the centerpiece of every evening spent at the campground.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors, with the shallow waters of the Pamlico Sound providing world-class conditions for kiteboarding and windsurfing. A short drive north leads to the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for birdwatchers and nature photographers. History enthusiasts can visit the historic Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, while the Rodanthe Pier offers a chance to experience the island iconic surf fishing culture.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is a perfect fit for active water sports enthusiasts and travelers who prefer a more rustic, quiet camping experience over a crowded resort. It is ideal for those who value direct sound access and a local, community-focused feel. If your goal is to simplify your travel and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the North Carolina coast, this park provides an excellent, low-key home base.

Love this place!!! This family campground is no frills and tons of fun! It's super laid back, well maintained, and extraordinarily friendly. The campground owner hosted a fish fry for the 4th, and everyone brought side dishes and lots of fun and laughter! Beautiful sunsets almost every day and love watching the kiteboarders out on the sound. Patty is so sweet and very helpful. This is THE BEST place to stay in the OBX!!!

We are trying to find a way to contact this campground. Very interested in making a reservation for mid-July 2025. The phone number is out of order and no email listed. How do we reach you?

This was a great no frills campground. There were a few shining stars here. First was Kelly. She is amazing, friendly, and so helpful. 2nd was the beach area with steps to the water where you can launch your kayak and paddle boards. 3rd the best sunsets ever. If I had any “cons” it would be the ladies room had no way to dry your hands after washing them.

A small privately owned campground near Rodanthe, NC on Hatteras Island. If you're looking for an big resort type campground, this probably isn't for you. It's nothing fancy, but it's nice and quiet and the people (staff and campers) are very friendly. Loved the outdoor showers at the bathhouse when we returned from the beach. No worries about golf carts riding around at all hours kicking up dust and making noise. Pam answered any questions we had and was very helpful. This is truly a hidden gem among the big resort campgrounds across the street. Beautiful sunset views on the sound. A short distance from restaurants and shops. We will definitely be back.
