Stafford Park (Huron County Park)

Overview

Located on the rocky and scenic shores of Lake Huron, Stafford Park serves as a premier destination for RVers exploring Michigan's Thumb region. This Huron County park combines natural beauty with well-maintained facilities, offering a peaceful retreat in the historic village of Port Hope. Visitors are often drawn to the park's impressive waterfront views and its connection to the local history of the lumber industry, making it more than just a place to park for the night.

Location & Surroundings

Port Hope is famously known as the Little Town with a Big Welcome, and its location provides a tranquil setting away from the busier tourist corridors. Stafford Park is situated directly on the lake, where the sunrise over Lake Huron provides a daily spectacle for campers. The surrounding area is characterized by vast agricultural landscapes and historic architecture, offering a quiet, rural atmosphere that feels worlds away from the city.

Amenities & Park Features

The park caters to modern travelers with a variety of site options to suit different camping styles. Many of the RV sites feature full hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity, ensuring a comfortable stay. Beyond the pads, the park provides several community amenities:

  • A spacious pavilion perfect for group gatherings or cooling off in the shade.
  • Recreational facilities including tennis courts, ball diamonds, and a playground.
  • Six cozy rustic cabins available for those traveling without their own rig.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure awaits just outside the park gates. History enthusiasts will appreciate the Port Hope Chimney, a remnant of the lumber mill that once fueled the local economy. For those who enjoy the water, the shoreline is ideal for launching a kayak or enjoying a quiet afternoon of fishing on the Great Lakes.

Always a fun spot to stop at with the kids. Nice playground next to the water.

The review for Stafford County Park is a "Campground" sitting on the shores of Lake Huron not a hotel? However they do offer several cute camper cabins. We truly enjoy every visit to Stafford and Port Hope.

Simple campground, lots of tent, camper sites, and a few cabins. Cabins have bathrooms which was a great feature. Mattresses are not very comfortable. If you have back issues bring a mattress topper.

Our camp site was a very ideal and perfect location to wake up to see the lake every morning and sleep to the sound of it at night. Campground was extremely quiet throughout the hours of the day and night as well. Bathrooms and showers are not the best, but it's camping so it can't be all that glamorous. Overall, I would recommend this place for any family vacation

This is an absolutely beautiful park right on Lake Huron. I have stayed here several times. My one complaint is the excessive yard lights at night. Some are even over firepits. Not a super relaxing way to enjoy a fire. It would be a suggestion to turn them off after a certain time like 10pm. Or get rid of half of them just have them by intersections and the bathroom. They are everywhere. It's a bit much. Other than that the park is clean, the staff is nice and it's walking distance to town. The water is rocky and a bit mucky, so bring water shoes, or drive to a different beach down the coast for swimming. There are a lot of options in the area.
