Stanislaus/Dardanelle

Overview

Dardanelle Resort offers a historic and rugged gateway into the heart of the Stanislaus National Forest. Established in the 1920s, this destination has served generations of travelers seeking a classic High Sierra experience. Unlike modern concrete resorts, this park emphasizes a rustic atmosphere that honors its mountain heritage. It provides a peaceful retreat for those looking to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the raw beauty of the California wilderness.

Location & Surroundings

Situated along the scenic Highway 108, also known as the Sonora Pass, the park is nestled at an elevation of approximately 5,700 feet. The landscape is defined by the rushing waters of the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River, which flows directly through the property. Surrounded by towering pines and dramatic granite outcroppings, the location offers immediate access to high-altitude terrain that remains remarkably pristine throughout the summer season.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV facilities at Dardanelle are designed for comfort while maintaining a traditional camping feel. Guests can find sites equipped with water and electrical hookups, though the park encourages a self-sufficient mindset. On-site, the historic General Store serves as a central hub, offering groceries, supplies, and a deli. Travelers often gather at the park’s tavern, which provides a sense of community. Please note that this is a true mountain escape, meaning cell service and internet are virtually non-existent.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly those interested in world-class trout fishing along the Stanislaus River. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the wonders of Pinecrest Lake or the dramatic geological formations at the Columns of the Giants. Hikers can access numerous trailheads leading into the Emigrant Wilderness or venture toward Kennedy Meadows. The high-elevation passes nearby offer some of the most spectacular photography opportunities in the Sierra Nevada range.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for RVers who prioritize scenic solitude over resort-style luxuries like swimming pools or high-speed Wi-Fi. It is perfectly suited for families looking for a technology break and anglers who want to walk from their rig straight to the riverbank. If you enjoy cool mountain air, the sound of rushing water, and a basecamp that feels like a step back in time, Dardanelle provides the authentic High Sierra experience you are looking for.

Their gas pumps were broken. They tried to sell me 2 overpriced gallons from a gas can, but two staffers couldn’t pour it into my tank. They basically dribbled a little bit next to the gas cap and when I said this wasn’t working, they asked me for $2. I paid the $2 for basically nothing just so I could get out of there and go to a real gas station. All the while some musician was yammering on in between bad 70s rock covers on their little music stage. Will never go back.

Used to snowmobile here and rent cabins in the 90's and 2000's. So sad it burned down. It had the coolest old Post Office, store and restaurant. Best service anywhere. Got drunk many a time in the bar and restaurant. This place was paradise. Hopefully the new owner's can rise up and bring it back to what it used to be or even better. Live off grid and have to snowmobile into my new house in winter and the reason I had the chones to buy my new home and do that was because of Dardanelle Resort!

This is a resort on the way on the Mono lake and Mammoth lakes via Sonora. We had to stop at the provision store to check which was the nearest gas station. The lady managing the store kindly explained the route correctly and provided accurate information about the nearby gas stations. In fact she even provided us two gallons of fuel for our car at a lower price than the the gas station we later found at Bridgeport ( which the lady mentioned). Thanks to the lady we were able to drive out from there with a peace of mind 😬.

I fell upon this place by “accident” literally! I ran over a Boulder @ Boulder Flat campground. The wonderful Corrine found me wedged btwn a rock and a hard spot unable to move. She oversees 3 of the campgrounds along this strip. She drove me to Dardanelles and let me use a landline. The campground owner was a jewel! Corrine drove me back to the site with tools and support. She single handedly got me unstuck without severe damage to the vehicle. Never doubt a women’s ability!!!!! Dardanelles and Corrine are rock ⭐️’s. Thank you for your hospitality and genuine kindness❤️.

This place is very nice but the people who take care are advertising as full hock ups. You will have electricity for lights only not 30 amp or 50 amps. So just expect this. Some sites are not leveled. Do you homework. The store is operating with ice available.
