Stanislaus/Hull Creek

Overview

Hull Creek Campground is a rustic and serene escape tucked deep within the Stanislaus National Forest near Long Barn, California. Situated at an elevation of approximately 5,600 feet, this campground offers a true back-to-nature experience for those looking to disconnect from the modern world. It is widely recognized as a premier hub for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, providing a rugged yet scenic basecamp surrounded by towering pines and the peaceful mountain air of the Sierra Nevada.

Location & Surroundings

The park is located in the heart of the Mi-Wok Ranger District, offering a secluded atmosphere far from the noise of major highways or urban development. The surrounding forest landscape consists of dense mixed conifers and massive granite outcroppings that are characteristic of the High Sierra region. Visitors will find themselves immersed in a lush canopy, with the nearby Clavey River drainage providing a beautiful backdrop for exploring the vast and mountainous terrain of Tuolumne County.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a primitive camping facility, meaning visitors should arrive fully prepared for a dry camping adventure. While the park does not offer hookups, it provides essential features for a comfortable stay in the woods. The following amenities are available on-site:

  • Individual fire rings and heavy-duty picnic tables at each site
  • Centrally located vault toilets for guest use
  • Direct access to expansive OHV trail networks

There is no potable water available, so bringing a sufficient supply is vital. High-clearance RVs are recommended to navigate the forest service roads safely.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure seekers will find endless opportunities for trail riding and motocross on the hundreds of miles of forest roads and trails surrounding the site. Beyond the motorized excitement, the area is excellent for birdwatching, nature photography, and wildlife viewing during the quieter morning hours. A short drive allows travelers to explore the historic mountain charm of Long Barn or venture deeper into the Stanislaus National Forest to find secluded fishing spots and hiking trails that lead to breathtaking Sierra vistas.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-sufficient travelers who prioritize raw outdoor adventure over resort-style luxuries. It is a top-tier destination for OHV groups and dirt bike riders who want the convenience of stepping right from their campsite onto the trails. If you enjoy the solitude of boondocking in a scenic, wooded environment and have a well-equipped RV for off-grid living, this spot offers the perfect rugged California mountain getaway.

Tall densed trees, shaded dark areas and very quiet when there are no ohv running. No cell service. A lot of mountains trails for 4x4, UTVs including smaller trails for ATVs and some single tracks for motorcycle. Elevation is around 5000 ft and all trails go up or down the mountain side. Hull Creek area has many well defined spaces for overnight camping. Restrooms available. The trees are so tall, it shades the sun from charging our roof mounted solar panels.
