Excellent trails for hikers, bikers, and equestrian... Very wide and very well maintained, very few rocks. The equestrian campground has a very navigable camper sites, an awesome barn, and a picnic shelter.

Great place, great dark sky for star watching, loaner telescopes, star party twice a year, Spring and Fall. A great family freindly place. A thoughtful gift shop with camper and hiker foods, aids for bird watching, binoculars for check out. Several trails and water for fishing, horse trails. Abundant wild life. Fires are welcome and firewood is available for puchase. The camp hosts were great. I came on a Star Party week. The weekend before, two guys had their own telescopes and offered demos, support for those with telescope check outs and great patience. There is a pool during summer and the Space Cafe is open from 8 am too midnight for Star Party week. There were special horse campground, horse trails, and horse friendly atmosphere. Many positives.

Clean, level well maintained area with a central Ranger station adjacent to a good size gift store and a small display of wildlife in the area. Clean public rest rooms are in the building, also accessible from outside. The Park sells ice with all proceeds going to the State Park. A very nice amenity. There is a separate building housing a full service café with dinners and other foods available during the day.

The campground is very nice, with mostly shaded campsites during the summer. The park is dog-friendly, and even has frozen dog treats for sale in the Gift Shop at the Visitors Center. It also offers recycling. The camp host and park staff were terrific. The dump station in the campground is adequate, but the park signage needs improvement.

We have nothing to complain about this state park. It's beautiful, friendly staff and camp hosts, quiet, and great hiking trails. We will definitely be back! Be sure to bring the big spray because ticks were plentiful! We were in site #20

Such an amazing place. We stayed a weekend and the cabins are well equipped and sit right in the water. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. But the biggest draw was the dark sky. The beauty of the night sky without light pollution is something everyone should experience.

Very quiet spot to get away to. Stayed in cabin 6 and it was very clean and had pretty much everything you'd need in a well supplied kitchen also. Bring your own linens. No wifi at the cabin was a little annoying, especially if you don't have unlimited data. Fire ring and grills outside each cabin. Firewood $1 with a drop box beside it.

I just got back from the Staunton River State Park Star Party, which is one of my favorite events of the year. The park is beautiful and peaceful, with clean well maintained facilities and plenty of hiking/biking paths along the river. The campground has leveled campsites nestled in the woods with a nice bath house. The cabins might be the best place to stay if you can get one - they are on a lovely hilltop overlooking the river below. The park is a protected dark sky site so the milky way is vivid overhead during the summer and fall when the weather is clear. But the best thing about this park is the staff - they work 12 hour shifts (or more) during the star party and do a great taking care of us. I'm looking forward to returning in March!
