A great camping site that had a fire pit, picnic table, water, and electric hookup. The night sky is unbelievable! The road up to the park is well maintained, as is the site itself. It is also dog-friendly. We'll be back again!

🌿 Stephen C. Foster State Park – Beautiful Scenery, but Be Prepared! We visited the State Park recently and were excited for a fathers day on the water exploring the Okefenokee Swamp. The boat rental pricing was very reasonable definitely one of the highlights and a great value for families or small groups looking to enjoy the river at their own pace. Unfortunately, our visit didn’t go quite as planned. After driving hours into the middle of nowhere to get there, we found out that the boat tours had been canceled “due to weather.” The frustrating part was that the weather seemed pretty typical for the swamp warm, humid, and a little cloudy, but nothing extreme. It felt like an unnecessary cancellation on what seemed like an average day and time. Another important note: there are no food options nearby, so make sure to pack coolers and gas up before you arrive. The park is VERY remote, which adds to the natural charm, but it also means you’ll want to be fully prepared. As for facilities, the bathrooms and shower areas in the tent camping section were unfortunately not clean during our visit — trash bins overflowing and showers in need of maintenance. It definitely took away from the experience. That said, the park itself is undeniably beautiful, and the wildlife and scenery make it worth visiting just with better preparation. We’d consider coming back in the winter months, when the bugs are lighter and we can plan well in advance with everything we need (including food, supplies, and even toilet paper). We plan to camp at Blackwater Ranch for our next visit as I heard great things about that smaller campground on the St Marys River. ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ – Gorgeous location, but needs better maintenance and consistency with services.

Beautiful area with clean facilities and friendly staff. Great for birding, fishing, viewing wildlife (alligators, turkeys, deer, etc)

We had a great time at the swamp! Have lived in Georgia my whole life and always wanted to visit the Okefenokee Swamp. Stayed at a cottage and took the boat out early in the morning. It was awesome! Got to see tons of gators and the water is so peaceful. We had the swamp to ourselves today aside from the DNR rangers. Plus the dark sky was super cool too. Love seeing the Milky Way. Cant wait to return someday, it was a blast!

This is the end of the west entrance. We stayed two nights in a cabin and took a motor boat tour. The cabin looked renovated and we had everything we needed. There is a hiking trail supported by boardwalks. It is great to boat deep into the swamp. You sit twisted to manage motor and steering. The seats are not comfortable. Therefore, you may end up with considerable back pain. The swamp cypresses have been clear cut long time ago. The view partially resembles a wasteland. Nevertheless, it is a great experience to visit a real large swamp. The rest of trees are possibly in larger number compared to other places.

Thoroughly enjoyed our walk on the boardwalk. There is a boat ramp & kayak/canoe launch area that was pretty well kept as well. There are picnic tables with covers and bear proof trash cans. Upon arriving there were deer grazing near the picnic tables which was a beautiful sight to witness. There is a map there to show where you are on the park along with in comparison to other areas around. The boardwalk looked fairly new and was nice and quiet to walk along. We spotted one gator, some turtles and an owl. This was a bit of a colder day that we went so there was not much activity from wildlife as there would be if it were to be a warmer day. At the end of the “dead end” side of the board walk there is a sitting bench that would be nice to read a book or spend time in nature observing birds or other wildlife. If you’re into bird watching, I would recommend bringing your binoculars to get a further view than what you can see with the naked eyes. We will be back to visit with a picnic and earlier in the day to explore the further walk because it was simply so beautiful and peaceful to explore

Great small state park. Unfortunately, most things were closed the day we went so we couldn't experience a lot. These pictures are from the first time I went when the mill was open. Also the bathrooms were closed this visit. That made it extremely unlikely that we could stay long, lol.

Wonderful, dark, and quiet front country that allows easy access into the deep reaches of the Okefenokee. Friendly staff, easy to reserve, and quaint cabins.

We went a month after hurricane Helene and only the campsites were open so there was no much to do. We stayed in site 37. Our tent fit on the site, but we would not have been able to get a second tent on the site. The ground is very hard and had to use a hammer to get the stakes into the ground. A lot of trees fell during the hurricane so not much shade. The outer campsites are roomier than the inside campsites. Unfortunately there is someone who lives outside the park that decided to play music at 4 am and it was loud enough to wake us up. The rangers told us that it happens frequently. I would have given a better review probably if we would have been able to visit the rest of the park and was able to use the trails.

Fairly small, in terms of hiking trails, but there is plenty of space for water craft. There is also an awesome trading post and friendly staff. Our boat tour guide, Alex, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, an excellent place to experience some natural tranquility. We will definitely come back!
