Stillwater Tent & RV Park

Overview

Stillwater Tent & RV Park provides a peaceful retreat situated along the banks of the historic Nipigon River in Northern Ontario. This family-operated destination focuses on offering a scenic riverside experience where guests can unwind amidst the natural beauty of the boreal forest. It serves as an essential stop for those traveling the Trans-Canada Highway who prefer a quiet, natural setting over a standard roadside stop, blending convenience with wilderness charm.

Location & Surroundings

Located just north of the town of Nipigon, the park sits in a prime position for exploring the rugged landscape of the North Shore of Lake Superior. The surrounding area is characterized by towering cliffs and the deep, cold waters of the river. Travelers often remark on the unobstructed views of the water and the frequent sightings of local wildlife, making it feel like a true wilderness escape while remaining easily accessible from the main travel corridor.

Amenities & Park Features

The park offers practical amenities designed for comfort, including sites with full hookups and 30-amp service to accommodate most RV styles. Guests have access to essential facilities such as clean washrooms, hot showers, and on-site laundry services. Each site is typically equipped with the following features:

  • Individual picnic tables and fire pits for evening campfires.
  • Spacious layouts that accommodate both RVs and tent campers.
  • Pet-friendly policies for those traveling with four-legged companions.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Anglers will appreciate the direct access to the Nipigon River, world-renowned for its record-breaking brook trout fishing. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the Nipigon River Bridge or hike the Nipigon River Recreation Trail, which offers spectacular lookouts over the water. Families often enjoy visiting the Paddle-to-the-Sea Park in town or taking a scenic drive to the nearby Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park for breathtaking views of massive geological formations.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts and anglers seeking a quiet home base for their outdoor adventures. It is particularly well-suited for travelers looking for a rustic and authentic Northern Ontario vibe rather than a high-traffic resort. If your travel style involves waking up to the sound of the river and spending your days exploring the Great Lakes region, this park provides the perfect atmosphere for your stay.

Best RV park in the area. Owners just took over and are working on getting it back into shape. About 12 sites. Beatiful set up. Good resturant.

Convenient location but washroom facilities were not available. The spots were roomy enough. Very basic utilitarian campground.

It was good - especially the coded washroom doors; coded to keep out non-campers from stopping by, was advised, but especially good for security for females. The taps are installed counter intuitively in the shower, so I had to step out and get water all over the plywood floor in order to not get scalded or freeze, so that's not the best, and need more ventilation in the washrooms (mould on ceiling). Lovely spots, lots of tents. Bring bug netting - it was a lifesaver! Nice, quiet sites.

Very nice, a little treasure we are glad we stopped at. Met very nice campers and front desk was very helpful. Will be back on our adventure west.
