This is a great hike with an amazing panoramic view. When we’ve been there we typically see many birds flying/hovering near the peak. This location will always be one of my favorites as my husband and I got engaged at the top of this mountain.

Great moderate hike with waterfalls and scenic views. About 5 mile loop with tons of stops along the way for beautiful views, creeks and waterfalls. Decent amount of people on the trails on a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommend!

Stone Mountain Park – Perfect Day Hike from Charlotte! If you’re looking for a solid hiking spot about 1 hour 40 minutes from Charlotte, Stone Mountain Park is a fantastic choice! We took the Stone Mountain Summit Trail (orange path), which is about 3.2 miles round trip from the parking lot to the top and back. It took us approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, with a moderate to tough difficulty level — especially the final stretch with some steep inclines. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a few snacks — the summit has breathtaking views that are perfect for a relaxing break. The trail is well-marked, the scenery is beautiful, and the reward at the top is totally worth the effort. Highly recommended for anyone up for a bit of a challenge and wanting to explore nature near Charlotte!

Very big state park with lots to do. State Rangers are very helpful and informative. Roads and hiking paths are kept up and clear. I am disabled and the rangers told us of the disabled access points, parking etc which was extremely helpful. I was able to see the Homestead because of the disabled access and parking. There is no cellular Wi-Fi unless you connect to the parks so be aware that cell service too is sketchy. We were only there for a day and really needed so much more time. It’s a beautiful park with lots to do. The history alone was worth the trip for me. The Blue Ridge area nearby is worth a week’s trip. There is plenty of wildlife too, a baby deer was found by hikers near the homestead when we were there. If you are into camping it would be an amazing place to stay. Definitely check into it if you are considering going to the area.

This is a beautiful state park. We tent camp but prefer to book a RV site due to them having water/electricity. The RV sites are large and leveled gravel and pavement. All include a fire ring ,picnic table and lantern post. We kinda like site 54 near the bridge and by the lovely creek. Some sites do offer more shade than others. The RV bath house is nicer than the ones in the tent areas. It has 3 toilets and 3 showers and sinks. Electricity also for hair dryers etc. The showers do have the push buttons and I hate those. Also when we were there it was hot so I would’ve enjoyed a cold shower but there isn’t any way to adjust water temperature. The park is huge and we enjoyed riding our bikes everywhere. There are many hiking trails and a huge picnic area outside of the campground. The campground checkin office does have ice and wood for sale. We’ve stayed here twice and both visits have been quiet and fun.
