Clean, standard lodge rooms. Front desk was extremely friendly. The hotel was busy, but we did not hear our neighbors. Room service was prompt and delicious. The views of the lake were spectacular. Onsite restaurants and gift shop were well appointed and reasonably priced.

The location is gorgeous, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly (Lynnette and Bill were rockstars moving luggage for the 4th or 5th bus of the evening, the front desk was very amenable, and maintenance were very professional--the toilet plumbing does seem to be older and we did need engineers to come up 3 times in 2 days), and the rooms are very relaxing (beds are cozy, layout is neat, and the hot water is top tier). The only wish was that we had a microwave to reheat food. Otherwise, everything was fabulous!

I found this on the internet and thought we would give it a try. To be honest, my hopes were not high at this price point. However, we absolutely loved it! We wanted an active vacation and this provides!! The walking trails are plentiful, the outfitters pass with kayaking availability let us take a 3 hour kayaking voyage, my husband is a triathlete and he was able to find a 25 mile bike loop and a 10K run! He loved the bike loop so much he did it one last time the day we left! We were able to be active, and recuperate in the jacuzzi and the spa! We ate lunches in the room which we're able to do w/the fridge and then we embraced the restaurants for a nice evenings out! Our favorite was Lightbridge on Jazz night! We went there twice and the smoked pork shoulder was the best. The surrounding town is small but there are a few attractions. We enjoyed the glass blowing and the staff there is so helpful. We did the history tour at the asylum. It was interesting but the resort was the best part of the trip. It really was just absolutely fabulous. You cannot beat it for the price point. It was wonderful for us and we already have another trip booked with us and our kids in the Spring. Totally worth the drive from Virginia Beach.

It's in a beautiful location and it's a nice place to get away for a relaxing time. The drinks are overpriced and food options are limited. Buffets are the best deal but these are ok at best and with nothing else around, I still wouldn't necessarily recommend them. You are better off getting a room with a mini fridge and bringing stuff for sandwiches. The food will be better and you will save yourself a ton of money. Have only stayed in the lodge, haven't stayed in the cabins. Customer service is hit and miss. All depends on the person you get. You can have a good experience or they can be absolutely terrible, it's rare I've had someone really great. The servers are all overworked and they will be sure to let you know it... usually repeatedly throughout your bar/restaurant stay. That said, knowing what we don't like, I know how to plan around it to make the stay better. I don't not recommend it, but if you have money for somewhere better, maybe try there first.

We had an excellent stay at Stonewall. The rooms were nice and clean. The restaurants were great! We rented a pontoon boat for the lake that was right outside our room window. Our dogs enjoyed the little dog park. We could see them loose to run in the fence. I look forward to coming back to this area of WV. The desk girl was very nice and I wish I would have caught her name.
