The Straits is a wonderful state campsite as you enter or leave the UP! Beach side sites provide for a beautiful view of the lake or the bridge. Off. Each sites are also beautiful and large. It's conveniently located near the bridge or the ferries to Mackinac. Definitely consider this park for camping either on the lake or off the shore

If you camp in Michigan's state parks, you probably know about the beautiful locations, access to lakes or rivers, and a genuine feeling of being at peace in nature. But nothing I've seen in any one of our state parks compares to this one. Straights is RIGHT over the Mackinac bridge. ($4 toll for cars, $10 for RVs. I don't know any of the others). The campground is so close to the bridge that you can sit on your site and enjoy looking at it, watching the boats go by. If your view isn't directly from your site, all you need to do is take a short stroll to almost any other area or up to the observation platform. Day or night the view is wonderful. We were there for four days mid- August and had PERFECT weather (nearly impossible on MI) the whole time. Warm days and cool nights. At night the stars were out in enormous numbers and the moonlight glittered off the water. With the bridge in the same shot, campfires burning on visitors' sites, and only happy, quiet sounds in the background, this could've been an advertisement for camping in Michigan. Most of the sites have electricity- waterfront do not. There isn't any site water, but there are lots of spigots all around the grounds. The bathhouse is clean and modern and centrally located. There's a dump station with three openings. A small playground and large open grass on sites (perfect for bocci or cornhole) provide activities for the family. The beach is very rocky and doesn't afford great access to swimming or sunbathing, but it is a perfect place to view that remarkable scenery. Sites are very shaded, but be alert for poison ivy if you venture into high grass. The roads are paved and hilly so bike riding is fun and we saw many people with pets out for walks or playing in the shallows. Try to work a stay at Straights into your camping calendar. You won't be sorry you did.

I was very surprised at how much we enjoyed camping at Straits State Park. Being one of the busiest parks in the state, our sites were spacious and private. We rented three sites 222, 223, and 224. Provided shade, no neighbors behind us, plenty of room for cornhole, and gathering around the fire. My family set a tent in 223, and as a warning, this site may not be a good tent site in rainy weather. It sloped slightly downhill at the back. But other than that, great sites! Campground facilities were always clean, hot shower, and not too busy. Besides camping, the park offers hiking, the North Country Trail runs through it, swimming, and great views of the Mackinac Bridge! Had a great family getaway, I will definitely stay here again.

Nice clean, showers and updated, bright bathrooms. No camp store but thereās a grocery store and family dollar within biking distance. Sites are a little crowded. Lower campground sits on a slope. The front sites are no power & no generator allowed but that view is worth it! We were on site 4A. Check out the bridge view at the upper campground. Itās a short walk on packed gravel to see. Beach is rocky but shallow waters. Not a lot of bike trails and a few hiking trails.

Loved every minute of camping here over Memorial Day weekend. There is a grocery store not far from the campground, with great views from the lower campground, we were at site 117 and could see the bridge through the trees :) We loved that this campground had a dishwashing station and newly updated restrooms. We liked the bridge overlook on Saturday morning before going out and seeing what town had to offer. I would definitely stay here again! Pictures with this review range from the lake access that was near out campsite, the beach, the overlook, and bridge view from our campsite and the lake.

Super location!! Spacious sites. Sites could use solid surfaces! Muddy. Parts of the park are RIGHT next to the lake. Notice Bridge in background š

Very nice campground. People are respectful and quiet in the evening. Great views of lake and bridge. Camp staff does great job of maintenance, as well as being helpful and friendly

We love to get a lakefront site so we can watch the freighters and have a view of the bridge. Popular campground for those going to the island. Close to a grocery store and town. Showers are newer, but they're like a power wash. And no shower curtain so it sprays everywhere and gets the entire room wet. The west end beach access hasn't been maintained so is overgrown with vegetation leaving little room for families to enjoy beach time. And many waterfront sites are so overgrown that it's hard to view the water and bridge anymore like in years past.

Great campgrounds and super clear (but very cold) water at the beach. The campsites along the periphery are larger and more private with more of a free for all in the middle sites. The showers were immaculate. Smoke from campfires can be a little overwhelming in the evenings. The state park is a short but hilly (for an 8 yr old) bike ride from downtown St Ignace which means easy access to Mackinac Island. We had a fun stay here.

I've spent many nights at many campgrounds and this is by far the worse. Made reservation by phone for 3 nights. Cost: $90 plus $10 registration fee. Got to park and was told I couldn't camp (even though I already paid and registered for site) unless I bought a parking pass for $9 a night or $34 for year. I wasn't told about this $9 a night extra charge. So it cost me $48 a night to camp here. I get to my site and the place is packed. Like a big sardine can. No privacy. Everyone not more than 15 feet apart. My site is tiny for a tent but they have it set up for RV electric. There is used toilet paper in the wooded area next to my site. Michigan State ought to be ashamed of itself. I will never come here again and I will definitely spread the word about Michigan not respecting it's tourists by omitting the truth and by packing us in. A camping experience ought to bring peace. Peace is not happening here.
