Sunset Point Campground At Harrington

Overview

Escape the crowds at Sunset Point Campground, a peaceful retreat on the rugged coast of Downeast Maine. This family-operated park emphasizes the natural beauty of the shoreline over resort-style commercialism. Guests come here to experience the uninterrupted views of Harrington Bay and the famous Maine sunsets that give the campground its name. It is a place where the tide dictates the pace of the day, and the sound of the ocean provides a constant, calming backdrop for a relaxing stay.

Location & Surroundings

Situated directly on the water in Harrington, the park provides a front-row seat to the dramatic tides of the Atlantic Ocean. The surrounding landscape is characterized by pine forests and rocky coastlines typical of the region. Being located away from the busier tourist hubs, it offers a more authentic coastal Maine experience. Travelers can enjoy the tranquility of a secluded bay while still being within driving distance of major landmarks along the scenic Route 1 corridor.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground provides essential services including full hookup sites that accommodate various RV sizes. Many of the sites are positioned right on the water’s edge, allowing for panoramic views from your doorstep. On-site facilities include clean restrooms, hot showers, and a laundry room for guest convenience. For those looking to explore the water, there is a private boat launch available. The park also maintains a camp store for firewood and basic supplies, ensuring a comfortable stay in a rustic setting.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the park itself is a destination for relaxation, it serves as an excellent base for exploring the Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park. Visitors can also take short trips to see the iconic West Quoddy Head Lighthouse or explore the charming fishing villages of Milbridge and Machias. Local activities often include birdwatching for bald eagles and shorebirds, coastal hiking, and enjoying fresh lobster from nearby local markets. The area is a photographer’s paradise, especially during the golden hour.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature enthusiasts and couples seeking a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of larger RV resorts. It is well-suited for travelers who appreciate the simplicity of Maine’s wilderness and want a base camp that prioritizes scenery and serenity. Hands down our favorite campground we’ve been to. Beyond peaceful with excellent sites overlooking the water. We were caravanning through the east coast with 3 motor homes and 5 dogs. Plenty of space to walk the dogs and trash cans located at every site for quick easy cleanup.

What a beautiful little spot. We were only there one night. The sites are great with little bush rows between them. And level. Bathroom showers were good sized and hot.

Gorgeous location. I had my coffee this am overlooking the water. I watched a pair of seals hunting for fish. The water swirled and fish jumped. I saw osprey and cormorants dive and come up for fish. Two Bald eagles flew by. What a wonderful campsite. The staff are welcoming and the grounds and facilities well maintained. This campsite is the highlight of my 2 week bike tour through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Maine

Amazing Sunsets!! Bathrooms are clean!! Showers have hot water!! Tent sites have power AND running water!! Owner is an amazing dude!! Stayed at a tent site for the second year in a row and probably love it 2x as much! Best campground I’ve been too by far. Just can’t understate how whimsical the view is, best place to watch the sunset is by far "The Rock" amazing view from there! Can’t recommend this place enough, absolutely stay here.

What a surprising little gem of a campground! Family owned, and well maintained, and peaceful. I enjoyed the shore walk by the ocean, and the variety of birds everywhere. Hot water at a clean dishwashing station was a surprise, and the music in the bathroom/shower house was a real nice touch. We will definitely stay again.
